#1: 206 drum rear brakes binding please help Author: ricksgti, Location: westbury, wiltshirePosted: Wed Jan 16, 2013 6:17 pm ---- right i will try and explain my best
peugeot 206 1.4 8v 2003 petrol (drum axel)
i replaced the rear brakes shoes and cylinders a few weeks back and since then have been binding ever so slightly
any went in for mot today and failed!!
they say the handbrake goes up way 2 far and does not hold
the rear brake load valve linkage is seased
and the rear brakes are binding slighty
SO!!
i adjusted handbrake cable from inside the car with the 13mm nut as all seemed very slack down there..it seems like its fully adjusted and the handbrake leaver is alot tighter (round 3/4 clicks)
we then took it out for a drive and u could feel the back binding alot more and went 2 a big hill applied hand brake and the car ROLLED straight back!!
got home and it smelt like the brakes were on fire (near enough were lol)
SO!!! any ideas wat has gone wrong and why this is all seeming like a complete disaster
if it does not make complete sense im very sorry but im not mechanic i will try my best to put right anything that sounds wrong
many thanks

Take the drums off and check the self adjusters. They are prone to going faulty. They may even be clogged by dirt if your cylinders were leaking.

Not unusual for the 206 auto adjustrers to fail inside the drums. If one fails and you have adjusted the cable you will get binding on one side and still no handbrake on the other - that is what it sounds like is happening.
When you adjusted the cable was the balance bar square or almost square. If it was out of true there is your problem and you need to get the rear drums off and fix the problem with the auto adjusters.
When you drive if one drum is hot and one cool that is another good diagnosis. Also the fact that even with handbrake adjusted to just a few clicks but still not holding suggest one side is working and one side not.
