#1: Peugeot 206 style 2003 1.1 First Car at 17 (Tips/Ideas) Author: harry206 PostPosted: Thu Jan 31, 2013 6:06 am
    ----
Ive recently brought a 206 after many years of my dad having one and wanting to drive it all them years but obviously being a young driver i would not be able to afford the insurance on something like his 2 litred engine. So i got myself a 1.1 for just over a grand. Ive been looking all over this forum and come across many different 206's and took a few ideas and want to put it towards making my car my own and something that will maybe turn heads in the college car park. I now have a bit of money to play with and have ordered a few things which i will list, please if anyone has any other ideas i would be very grateful.. This is my car from stock...

Start messing around with a 206 at 17 years old & prepare the Vaseline & bend over for the massive insurance premium rise.

A 206 is one of the worse cars a young person could buy.

I've got my insurance in advance with non-standard alloys and lowered, paying just over 200 a month which is affordable right now, i said im not into performance right now, not touching the standard exhaust etc, just a few visual things and interior mods which wont touch my insurance, cheers

Owch that is expensive, I work for an insurance company, a big one, I wont say who, but 2400 is common place for a 17 year old on Direct Debit, one off payment would have only been about £1200, DD almost doubles it with interest

And to be honest mate all your planned mods seem to be a bit "2009"your better off buying OEM parts to make it look like a 180,

EG, sports bumpers, vortex alloys etc etc

Its the same for any car at that age, I was looking at £4k for my premium for most cars, and managed to get a 206 on a tracker for £1600

would pay the straight up if i had it but just couldnt afford it haha! and i had been looking at them, the 180 vortex alloys are 17"s though? wouldnt that mess it up abit as my standards are 14's?:) always liked the look of low and deep dish maybe not on a standard cheap 206 but im willing to give it a go, will lower it and get the wheels on, debadge it and go from there:) cheers man!

wow 2400... Im 17, just passed my test, 53 plate 1.1 Lx and im insured fully comp on my own policy with the car in my name (no little black box), with non standard alloys for £1700. Mate, you got ripped off big time.
Also I agree with chinabluegti that some of the mods are out of date, such as the seatbelt pads? Also, i doubt you'd need an amp on its own, unless your gonna have a massive sub or a dvd player in the boot?

Not actually. Insurance is a postcode lottery, can vary wildly depending on where the insured address is and other factors.

Best way to lower your insurance policy is to add older named drivers with no points or claims. Wink

kind of not worried about them being out of date as i just want it lower, deep dished and looking clean, dads taking me tp scrappy tomorrow on a hunt for colour coding trims and gti body work!:) just want something that will stand out abit more than 14 inch steels and the chassis looking like its on stilts!:) and i guess your lucky! live on thw outskirts of a very built up area of which the town centre is like a nest for chavs, my insurance is bound to rip me off! and have a 12inch in the boot but not too keen on using it, might just get 4 6x9's or something to run it of them or run new rear seat speakers when they come

Wow I'm very surprised. Maybe things have changed recently. I know of loads of people that have had cheaper premiums when they added another driver, usually older with more NCB's.
Did you try the clubs affiliated insurance company, Prestige?

I'm just glad I started driving over 20 years ago when things were'not so bad. I insured an imported Impreza WRX when I was 21 and it only cost £1,234 fully comp.
Sadly it's a sign of the times.
