been stood there holding it about to pull it out but kept scaring myself and pussied out
battery is properly disconnected following BSI shut down thingy.

After disconnecting the battery, all the power to the airbags should have dissipated after about 20 minutes, making them safe to work on.
It's the sudden power surge the airbags get when you re-connect the battery that you have to worry about
