Gearbox Oil Filler Plug
-> 206 Problems

#1: Gearbox Oil Filler Plug Author: A10PSW PostPosted: Sat Mar 02, 2013 5:29 am
    ----
I can't find the gearbox oil filler plug on my 2005 Pug 206 1.4 HDI.
Am I right in thinking that it no longer has one on the later models and that you fill it from the breather?

Where is the breather? and
Do I need any special equipment to fill it?

I want to take out the 75w90 oil and replace it with 75w80 semi Synthetic as
it crunches into gear until the oil has warmed up!

Thanks

The gearbox should already have 75W80 oil in it unless someone has changed it in the past?

Yes I have just had a new clutch fitted and since then it crunches into 2nd gear when it is cold.
The garage has put 75w90 oil in (Halfords gear oil book recommends 75w90)

Do these gearboxes have a drain plug? If not, you'll have fun draining the old oil out unless you have the right equipment.

The breather should be on top. On the 8v petrol, it's under the air box and battery tray. Would have thought it would be in a similar place on yours.

You have to take out the battery tray and maybe the lump of metal it sits on (you take all that out when you change the clutch so it should already be off??)
Pull the little plastic cover off and pour oil in through there, just make sure you know how much oil it needs/how much you took out as there is no way to see when the level is correct.

It will probably be BE gearbox, maybe an MA

If it is BE, look around the diff area for round bung with a square in the centre. The refill location is on the end, near to the mudguard, this is a 19mm if i remember correctly

MA gearbox drain is again around the diff area, but the refill is through the reverse light sensor

Or change the lower wishbone on the n/s, drive shaft will then pop out and dump all the oil in no time Laughing Laughing Sad

The box has a standard drain bung but no refill hole.

Thanks, do you just pull off the black plastic cover and fill from there or is there something I need to unscrew?
