Need urgent advice!
-> 206 Problems

#1: Need urgent advice! Author: Reagan91, Location: North West PostPosted: Wed Mar 13, 2013 9:58 am

Had a few problems with the car this month!

Firstly, my tracking was going out too quick causing me to need new tyres every couple of month. Took it to the garage, got a new ball joiny fitted.

Secondly, the day before the MOT a new grinding noise appears, two new rear break shoes later we have an MOT pass.

Today, I took the car back in. Since the ball joint issue when ive been going round roundabouts and big bends my car pulls further into the corner than I steer causing me to lose control slightly. Pretty scary. The garage looked over it and told me its one of two things, I either need spacers (gone from steelies to pug alloys so doubt it), or it could be that the mount on top of the shock absorber could need replacing. The garage didnt check as would need to strip the whole thing down.

Dont want to fork out hundreds on a maybe so wondered if anyone has had the same issue or can help!

Thanks,
Reagan.

You did change the wheel bolts when you fitted the alloys?
You CANNOT use the original steel wheel bolts with alloy wheels!

I hope you mean a new pair of brake shoes, these MUST be replaced on both rear wheels at the same time.

Tracking checked & adjusted correctly after the suspension work was carried out?

Jack the car up and feel for any play in the front wheels? maybe track rod ends loose, etc? recently had a bump into a kerb or anything like that? and most importantly are you running budget tyres and do they have plenty of tread?

If the top mount/s has gone it'll probably knock when turning on full lock so try that

If you are going down a straight road and you let go of the steering wheel, does it start drifting to one side?
Is it more noticeable turning one way than the other?

Was over your way a couple of weeks ago, hope that wasn't your 206 parked up between the Spar and the industrial estate. Won't be over there much now as BMBC are removing the problem from that area and shoving it on someone elses doorstep.

I replied with the answer you need in another thread you posted in.

Wishbones. 100%

Tyres are brand new so plenty or tread. Not bumped anything and no play in the tyres (although I am a bit feeble). It also doesnt drift when going straight and is more noticable when turning right. And macca, wont be me parked near the spar. So do we think wishbone?

Without looking it is difficult to diagnose but wishbones are the norm.

Less likely but it could be a rear axle bearing allowing the rear to steer the front.

Look at the back of your car, do the wheels point in / have camber on either side ?
