just got quoted £415 from peugeot for the belt, tensioner and water pump, a local garage quoted me £385 for the same service, i heard the 180 requires special locking tools which i know for cert peugeot will have, do u guys think i shood just fork out the xtra £30 and go to the peugeot specialists?

yeah definately what i was thinking, plus would look better in the service history, the shocking one was the price 4 the waterpump replacement, £299 for the belt service inc tensioners but £116 for the pump!! in an outraged reply i asked why was it so dear, their excuse was because they would need to refill the car with coolant lol, although £299 for the belt is a gr8 quote to be done properly.

If it goes to a Peugeot dealer it will most likely be the workshop apprentice doing the job Wink

iicr the pump is around 40 from pugs direct so thats some dam expencive coolent lol lol
when i had mine done my local dealer wanted 750 to do it so they did'not get the job and got it done by a mate.

how do u expect an apprentice to qualify if you do not allow him/her to take some responsibility, if the belt happens to unfortunately break then it will get wheeled back into the garage till it gets done properly with some additional contribution for the inconvenience lol, and yeah must be top of the range coolant lol!

I charge £280 for the gti's. Typically miles away though.

gtijames... correct. Sod paying £80 for a kit for the sake of one pin, rather pass on the benefits to customers. The locking pin for 180's and late 138's takes a while to get right, but easy to make as it's all cylindrical. Cams can be locked with a suitable drill bit or bolt.

well its definately something i would have tried to do rather than like u said fork out £80, i'll just swallow my pride and let the dealer do it. there will be many more chances to get job satisfaction as long as i keep running a french car lol Smile
