Hi My girlfriend has a Peugeot 206 HDI 2006 It failed mot the other day due to abs warning light staying on!! The local garage could not fix it said probably be elec fault auto elec could not find a problem, time for a visit to local Peugeot main dealers for diognostics chech. Apparently it needs a new abs braking system pump at a cost of £800 approx, and best part of a grand fitted!! Just wanted a few oppinions as what to do! as its more than what we were expecting!! Thanks.

Well it will need plugging in to a diagnostics reader to find the fault codes, Halfords autocenter do this for £49.99 ( Just an example ) u may find it cheaper somewhere else... I dont know alot about ABS but it might be the abs sensor, or cracked abs ring at the least, there fairly cheap to buy and a decent garage wont charge much for the fitting. Could be something more serious though, Best of get it code read first

If a dealer has told you this, then that must be the problem. Do you have the fault codes, rare for a pump to go. If it is the pump find a Peugeot specialist. Might be cheaper.

Got same problem, from my previous post.
If brakes working ok, with abs light on, doubt it will be pump.
More than likely abs rings kaput, just had mine changed, unfortunately abs light still on, just got it code read £10
front n/s sensor fault, gonna check it tomoz, now weathers got better.
Hope this helps before garages start to rip you off.

£50 for a code read? I bought my own half decent tool for £36.

A Peugeot dealer is generally right, but not always. Not sure there is a way to check the pump? Mr bsi might no.

What system is fitted to it?

Standard later 206 with ABS, EBD with EBA or has it got ESP fitted?
