My 206 has done this every other month or so for the last year, but now its becoming far more regular.
When waiting in traffic or parked up with the engine running, sometimes when it is just ticking over, the car will just die - and then it will take about 10 minutes of having the engine off before I can coax it back to life by starting with my foot on the accelerator.
Today however I started the car normally, but it immediately died - and after starting it again with my foot down as soon as I took my foot off it wouldn't even tick over - it would just die.
Started it again to get a video of what happens, but of course it didn't die! Still shows issues with revs though, so here's the vid. Any time it goes above 1k revs I have revved it, but the rest is the engine doing it on its own (such as the 'constant 800 revs' being a pulsating rev! Also, normally when it umps down to 200 revs it dies, it didn't today for osme reason!
Any ideas? Cheers guys! Really annoying problem as unpredictable and means I just can't trust the car!
#2: Re: Engine cutting out Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Wed Apr 24, 2013 5:56 am ---- Always difficult to diagnose from a distance but as your idle rpm is oscillating every sec and it's struggling to hold idle then I'd want to check the pre cat O2 sensor running data. You could do a simple check and view the voltage output from the signal wire at tickover looking for an oscillating voltage between 0.1- 0.8v every sec
Pre cat O2 sensor again? So many of them lately
Look for stored fault codes but don't always expect them on the O2 sensor as it may still be within limits but still have very poor response
Other clues might be very poor fuel consumption as it's needed to fine trim the fuel/air at steady engine rpm. The poor restarting and needing floored accelerator indicates a very rich condition which again can be caused by a poor O2 sensor signal

I changed down a gear and slowed a bit, and the speedo shot back up. Don't know if this is connected!
#4: Re: Engine cutting out Author: eddie206, Posted: Sun May 19, 2013 11:12 pm ---- I watched the film and i noticed you havnt mentioned the odd behavior of the far right temp gauge...if you look it hits max. with a red light within the gauge then 3or4seconds after starting the ligjt goes and the needle drops to zero...
This strange behavior along with your speedo gliche would point to the need for a bsi reboot but the reboot is unlikely to be the cause of your stalling and misfiring....these symptoms are often rectified by cleaning the ICV thats the Idle Control Valve however....it could be something else entirely...read the codes if your getting any and you can access a code reader?

Not got any access to a reader unfortunately, but will look in to the ICV , Thanks

Non plexed is totally different for the oil level gauge.
