I recently bought this 206 1.4 HDI. It runs fine under 50mph without any noticeable sound.
Yesterday took it on motorway for a 2-3 hour trip and at around 60mph I could feel a clunking type sound coming from the rear and it accompanied with a thud that I can feel on driving seat.
It does not happen all the time and I could take it to 70mph but it only happens between 50-60 and on mostly a declining or straight stretch.
I also noticed some inner tyre wear on Near side rear tyre.
Can you please guide what can cause the thudding, it was quite loud. The car has passed mot about 3 months ago.

I have checked the spare wheel and its very tightly fitted and the thudding sound is more solid than the spare wheel holder
#6: Re: clunking sound from rear Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Wed May 15, 2013 3:34 pm ---- Sounds like you need jack up the car either with trolley jack or put onto axle stands, grab hold of the rear wheels one at a time and give some pretty hard push / pull twist and feel for any movement. Sounds like rear axle beginning to fail.
If you can't find anything get a knowledgeable mate to check or, to be sure, run it into a garage that you trust. Shouldn't be more than £30, £45 absolute tops to check and diagnose this.

Today I noticed positioning the OS mirror that with the sound the O/S/R wheel is wobbling. It does not wobble all the time but it is increasing with time. Can anyone please let me know what can be the issue and how much could it cost to repair?
and anyone knows a reliable garage near Worcester?

Worse case scenario if its impacted the drive shaft it could be double that to replace would get it checked asap at a garage

Best fix is service exchange axle. Do a search on the net as there are a few places that will supply and fit.
Some people fit second hand axles but you don't know how long any second hand replacement is going to last and you do need to get one that is right for your car i.e ABS or non ABS and is it disc brakes or drums?

My garage fitted a second hand axle the only problem was fitting the abs sensor which required an additional bracket being fitted as the car it had come from had a slight variation to mine.

I got a refurb from IM axles and they lower the price a bit if you give them your broken axle.
