noise from near glove compartment

#1: noise from near glove compartment Author: belti PostPosted: Fri May 31, 2013 3:35 am

Hi

When I turn on the car (normally in the morning) sometimes I hear a noise typically for a few seconds and it seems to be coming from somewhere near the glove compartment. The noise is very similar like someone is spraying a spray.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thank you in advance.

Possibly the brake servo. It's situated on the bulkhead just behind the glovebox. You could have an air leak which is causing a hissing sound.

air hissing from around the glove box could be the brake servo leaking.

with the car running but the radio and blower turned off , press the brake pedal and see if it makes the noise.

EDIT , maccas fast Very Happy

Assuming it's a right hand drive car.

Hi

Thank you very much both for your replies. So is this something that needs to be solved as soon as possible or can I wait till the next service which is due in a couple of months?

Also if it is the a leak in the break servo is it something expensive to solve?

Thanks

Hi belti, just curious to know what the mechanic has said.
I have a simular noise, to what your saying, an intermitent noise, like a loudish wheezing, something pumping up, lasts approx 10 secs, on starting the car up in the morning, not always mind you. It is nothing associated to the fuel priming i might add.
Never delved into it though, just presumed its something like the airbag doing a system check or some other self check on another part.
