Engine swap PLEASE HELP

#1: Engine swap PLEASE HELP Author: DylanAWRoberts PostPosted: Sun Jun 02, 2013 1:11 pm
    ----
Hey guys,

So i bought a vtr engine for my 1.1 206 engine swap and i have hit a rather large barrier with the engine looms as my new ecu wont fit the 1.1 loom and the new 1.6 vtr loom wont fit the 1.1 fuse box i am in a right spot of trouble and have been swapping round sensors from the 1.1 onto the 1.6 block but i suspect doing so will either one make it not run at all or two run very lumpy and slow because of it thinking there is a 1.1 instead of a 1.6 if anyone could help me out that would be great or if anyone knows a loom that would fit that would solve it all i thought maybe the 1.6 glx loom could work but dont have anyone around me who has one so i cant check! thanks in advance for your help!

What do you mean it doesn't fit the fuse box?

Its not a straight swap, you should, and will need to swap ECU and Immobiliser from the saxo.

By the bottom, not on the airbox. Look behind the front bumper down low on the passenger side.

i still cant see where this plug is supposed to go, that plug is supposed to go where there is no plig pluged in on the fuse box there is no loom on my 1.1 where that can plug in the only wire that goes down passenger side by the bumper is the fog light :/

when you swap engines,it's always recommended to have the donor car close to you,and swap engine, and engine loom,ECU,fuse box,and everything related to make this work, this way u will have a great finish, and a free problem car.

i have the car close by, the fuse box in the saxo is also incompatible with the loom on my car :/ as my fuse box has plugs for the battery lights and everything els where as the saxos box doesnt i think im going to have to get a loom of a 1.6 hid or glx 206 to get this to work :/

if i get the loom of this model could i just bipass all these issues? the ecu on this car looks the same as my 1.6 ecu or would i need both the ecu and loom?

I think to make this swap work your going to have to strip the saxo of all it's looms, dials, etc and install them in the 206. The multiplexed system is not going to work with your non plexed saxo engine. It may be better to rethink this altogether unless you have the time. I hope you do get it sorted though.

Why don't people do research before fiddling with things they obviously know sod all about.

From the pics I would say this is a wildly different setup. I don't know much about engine swaps myself, but would strongly recommend you get in-touch with an experienced auto-elec on this one. He might well sort you out painlesly in the end.

the only big issue i have is the ecu as from swapping sensors around and a few other things ive managed to get the 1.1 loom to fit the vtr engine but there are also a few plugs that the 1.1 loom doesnt have that the vtr does :/ its all gone tits up with this swap might just sack it off all together and pick up a 1.8 or 2.0 from a guy i know! :L

Have a look at this even if you sorted the engine ECU you would still have problems, your better off getting a 1.6 16v from a 206, not a saxo

Is it an 8 valve Saxo engine? Why not just throw it in the car running on all the original engine sensors????

I don't think there ever was a 8 valve multiplexed 1.6 fitted to the 206.

He's probably doing this because he cant insure a GTi so wants to pop the 1.6 8v lump in and not say anything to them and keep it 1.1 insurance

What happens about possible medical costs to other party involved? (touch-wood)

Would be the same as being in an incident with an uninsured driver.

NHS pay just like they would in an insured accident, so in the long run, the rest of us pay for it in National Insurance contributions.

I've never heard of an insurance company reimbursing the NHS for treatment given at the scene or the aftercare. The ambulance service used to charge for attending, which could be claimed back through the insurance, but not even sure if they still charge or not.

That's OK then.

Over here you go to prison, your familly pays the injured for the rest of his/her life, and everyone involved suffers.
There is however very often a clause for 'accident with un-insured vehicle' for legal and medical cover for yourself.

BTW, it's the specific vehicle that is always insured and anybody can drive it even if not mentioned in the cover explicitly. Like, you lend it to your friend he wrecks it and another car in the process, and insurance pays.

Anyway, I'm sure the person wanting to do the engine swap would have declare it afterwards and you are all jumping to conclusions really.
