#1: Problem: Funny Noises, Water/Clutch/Grinding (with video) Author: PugJH, Location: NorthantsPosted: Fri Jun 21, 2013 12:20 pm ---- So my girlfriends car has developed *all of a sudden and all at once* a problem.
I drove it to work yesterday and today because she said it was juddering when pulling away or reversing (which it was)
Yesterday when I started it up I heard a grinding noise (starter motor) then when its running you hear a tapping noise, press the clutch pedal down you feel a spongey force and hear a watery noise, as if water is sloshing about and filling up. While sticking to a decent speed say 50mph you wouldnt know anything was wrong at all and even changing gear doesn't sound strange.
Day 2 (today) drove to work in it, pulling away at junction etc was juddering so I gave it extra rev's and it seemed to like that and carried on smoothly, then while going along I opened the window to realise that everyone outside can hear the engine bay throwing a wobbly.
When I got home I parked up, while stopped, with clutch down I heard the water sound so I took my foot off the clutch to hear a clacking noise, I did this a few times and when my foot was off the clutch it sounded like someone drilling, ie metal against metal IMO, which was resonating down the clutch pedal.
Soon to update a video.
Any ideas, possibly clutch/release bearing about to go, contaminated GB, if so how?
If its clutch would it come on so suddenly?

Hopefully the metal against metal sound is the pressure plate against the rivets of the friction plate and not the friction plate against the fly wheel.
Might be worth whipping the starter off and seeing what you find. Not heard of a flywheel ring gear giving way for quite a while, usually the starter gear goes first, but you never know.

It would be wise to ring around local garages to see how much it's going to cost. Probably around 300 including parts

Its under warranty so hoping they can feel the issue when I take it for check up and sort it.

Can't say it was the same for the engine running a wobbly, it was just when you engaged the clutch, so, it could well be the mounts.
