#1: Looking for peeps for Open Sourced 206 Project Author: AX-Rated, Location: Swansea, Wales PostPosted: Tue Jul 16, 2013 3:57 pm

Bit of a crazy request but here goes.....

I've had something cooking in the form of a rather ambitious and off the wall project thats got to the end of my abilities without involving some serious book reading or university course.

It would be silly for me to keep this to myself now, I'm not one for getting my name in lights and rather more minds and eyes on this to iron out the potential issues that I might have missed.

So heres an offer for anyone who's seriously interested in advising/getting involved/deciding what direction this goes in, for a chance to be part of something which could be quite a good spin for 206 owners.

So if you have serious mechanical/electrical knowledge with anything 206, knowledgable about chassis design, suspension, not backwards with being part of a team, not someones who looks at a problem as a 'NO' but as a 'WHY NOT DO THIS' and getting this off the ground, then message me with your background.

The reason why I haven't put this fully open source as I'm aware of scene haters, thinking this might be a copy or a bad idea or why don't we just do this and not do that etc....
I'm also trying to keep this project on the original line I set out for but willing for the crew to take in different directions within the original brief if they see fit.

As for the whole project team, your involvement will be purely internet based but if you want get involved and get a hard copy then I encourage that. Don't expect it to be cheap though!

But one thing is for sure, you're getting involved with something you've never heard of before.

As for me, I've been part of the french car scene over 10 years, owned an AX and co-started www.axownersclub.com, had a DERV 106 as a run about, and now a 206 GTi, done engine swaps and hardware changes like suspension swaps, upgrades, but as an electrician by trade, got into the electrical side of things.

In my history, I've never heard of anything remotely close to something of this nature and done my homework on the potential chance of this getting done.

So PM away.

Cheers all.

P.S I cannot guarantee to ask any questions asked below this post or any speculation as to what I might or might not be doing. Its all on paper and in my head so far.

Hi, I'm very intrigued. By trade I'm a Mercedes Benz mechanic but work mainly on vito's and sprinters. I work on the vito's as the London taxi form and repair rear wheel steer systems.
I studied engineering at college and went to Uni to study automotive engineering, I didnt complete as I decided it wasn't right for me. Anyway I can help I will, I could also talk to the engineers that built the RWS if there's anything I can't help with.

What exactly are you asking for, and what are you doing?

What am I asking for:
People with serious knowledge and drive to get involved with something that won't be easy.

Wht am I doing?
Making a project car based heavily upon the 206. A lot.

Thanks for your interest and enthusiasm ukskater. You sound like you got the drive and background to be of serious use here.
You own a 206 too?

So in a nutshell, you are making a kit car with a 206 as the donor vehicle.

I was talking to another member the other day about engine conversions and we have never seen a 206 turned into an electric vehicle. You could even try running a standard petrol engine from a Bi-carb of soda/water mixture. You can have those ideas for free.

So Macca, does that mean that you're in or what?

I'm glad you mentioned this because this project includes EVs and the possibility of that.

Depends how much help you're going to need.

Personally I would go with an electric vehicle. Make it 4WD and if you get a model with the sunroof, you have somewhere to mount solar panels. Mount a small generator in the engine bay so you can recharge the batteries easier and while on the go.

I'm not making an EV but there is the possibility of making a spin off. The people involved will have access to do that if they please.

As for help, you can contribute as much or as little as you want, but I'm after people who can actually help not just criticise and say how its a bad idea all together etc.

Id certainly like to know more and help out on this project..I have various skills that should be usefull from mechanics to design and art and more so if youll have me then chalk me down for assisting you here.

I take it most of the required help will be distant emails etc. rather than direct hands on as i see your based in Wales?

Thanks.

I will close the offer in one week so if you all know of anyone that would be of assistance, Facebook away!

Hi, had my 206 for about three years now. Dad got it for me and fixed some rear end damage. Had to change alot to get it ok again. Then the axle went, changed the bearing but had to replace the axle about a year later with a recon. What ever you need help with I will try. Just let me know

Maybe I haven't read it all properly but I haven't quite got what it is exactly that you want people to do for you - actually come round and physically build it with you?

If it is I wouldn't really have the time or funds - but I studied mechanical engineering in uni so if you need any CAD work / engineering drawings / stress analysis doing I'd be happy to help if you supplied me the information.
