#1: wrong gear box? Author: Achillez, Posted: Thu Jul 25, 2013 6:30 pm ---- Hello everyone, I've had my car for just over a year ( worse car ever, can't afford a new one ) I've always wanted to ask do I have the wrong gearbox? I've got a 1.6 16v xsi , I'll tell you my gear ratios, 1st no idea, 2nd 50mph hits the limiter, 3rd just hits 70 and hitting the limiter, 4th 90 and hitting the limiter, 5th no idea.
Seems my ratios are low, if I'm driving along going 50, all I hear is engine noise like it needs 6th, I'm getting sick of this, its so annoying and sounds like my engine is going to blow.
Any help or info would be great.
And just to clear something this was tested on OUR private road, and I know its bad hitting the limiter but I'm fed up and I had to find out the ratio speed.
Thanks

#5: Re: wrong gear box? Author: steveo1259, Location: ManchesterPosted: Fri Jul 26, 2013 4:57 am ---- I put mine in 5th at 50mph for around 2500rpm which is the quietest my engine is. That sounds like you are still in 3rd or 4th?

I was only hitting the limiter to find the ratios, I'm no mechanic and I didn't know how else to find out the ratios, I've always thought the previous owner had modified or put the incorrect gearbox in. If you read my whole post which states I wanted to find out the gear ratios hence why I was hitting the limiter you wouldn't be assuming why the car hasn't been good to me, I can only tell you to learn to read.
