Unknown Pink Headunit wire
-> 206 Problems

#1: Unknown Pink Headunit wire Author: Jordy6969 PostPosted: Mon Aug 19, 2013 11:45 am

My 206 is a 1999 Pre-plexed version

I'm in the process of swapping my head units over as the old is knackered.

However I have hit a snag as I have found a pink wire that comes from the car that I am unsure of. I have used a wiring diagram to understand the other wires and what they do specifically.

I know there is 3 wires that go directly into the multiplex top display and the other 3 are as I understand the Earth/Ground, Ignition switch and constant.

Can anyone tell me what colour these 3 wires are on the car as I can't tell what this Pink wire is??? there's a pink one, Yellow and Green, and white.

Thanks in advance for any help

I am sure someone will be along to help but you can check yourself with a multimeter.

Got another question, does the HU get its constant power from battery via the multi-function display unit?

Ye I can do that I know but not got one handy at this moment in time.

Found out the Green/Yellow is definitely the earth/ground

Gets power from yellow or red wires direct from fuse box ... sometimes they need to be swapped over to keep memory live on non-standard HUs.

If you are fitting a standard Peugeot Clarion RD1 HU it should just plug in ... if non-standard it would normally come with adaptor blocks and doesn't use the MFD unit at all.

My wires seem to have to moved about in the block that you plug in so need to swap some wires about in order for it to work which is a pain in the ass

You can buy adaptors so no need to swap the wires. Much neater, easy to reverse and you don't need to remember what you changed if you later swap the HU again or refit the original. Don't change the existing connector that is a trap set to be sprung at a later date.

What I'm saying is that it's already been changed, I bought an adapter and gonna adjust that, not gonna touch the wires on the car

I have another couple of questions, pretty sure I know the answer but just need to check.

The 3 wires you need to have working correctly on preplexed 1999 206 to ensure that the HU can function properly is the earth/ ground, constant and ignition live?

Also where is the ground from the head unit attached to on the car because I'm concerened it may be a loose connection and want to check it

Thank you

yes you need them 3 for it to work right and you can connect the ground to any metal part of the cars stucture or if really keen run a new lead/wire to the battery.

I'm not sure if you have sorted it but could be from an old stereo by previous owner I had to install a pink wire with my ripspeed dv720 flip screen stereo as an earthing point so you can't drive and watch films, just a thought but I could be wrong. If it is that it will go to the handbrake.
