gear selector issues!

#1: gear selector issues! Author: Dazzaschofield PostPosted: Tue Sep 24, 2013 3:16 pm

Hi guys,

Firstly thanks for helping with my previous query of central locking problems. Found the fuse and issue solved.

My new problem is with the gear selector. Was out driving today and parked up, when i returned to the car the gear stick was extremely loose, i could still force the car into a gear but as soon as i started driving the gears popped back out!

Breakdown cover guys came and took a look and he showed me what was wrong although not sure if the exact name. Looking down through the engine bay there is a small ball that sits inside a socket and in my old car when I move the gear stick the ball moves the socket. On the car with the issue, when moving the stick the ball is slipping straight through the socket.

Firstly can someone tell me what the parts Im referring to are called. Also how easy of a fix is this?

Gear linkage. Seems to be a common fault from posts I have seen recently. Just need replacing.

Check the bar which holds the box to the said selector. Probably come off.
