splutter on acceleration
-> 206 Problems

#1: splutter on acceleration Author: dubdup PostPosted: Wed Oct 02, 2013 12:27 pm

Still ironing out a few issues on my new car. Had an issue where when accelerating, it would not do it smoothly, dertemined it was temp sensor so changed that and cleaned throttle body, cured that part of the problem. But also on acceleration, if you blip throttle it seems to splutter a little and then when revs drop (say to 750 rpm) it drops to 600 as if it is going to stall, then catches itself and levels at 750.

Also if you hold the revs at say 1500 (did this with hand on pedal to ensure keeping it steady), it holds stady, then may dip or rise - only by 50 revs or so, but enough to tell.

Sounds like I am aiming for perfection, but had a couple of times when leaving a junction, when it splutters on pick up, which could end up causing problems.

Put new plugs in last week (when changing temp sensor), so put the original iriduim Super 4's back in, in case it was the new plugs, but the plugs were fine and firing cleanly. Does smell like slightly over fueling.

Tried to have car read at a local garage, but seems to stick at testing radio on the test cycle. Any ideas or anyone in Sheffield area that I could visit who can read car to see if any faults.

Dont want to start buying parts if not needed, so help is welcomed. Car is a GTI 180 on a 2004 plate.
