Hi all,

I am on the look out for a GTI HDI 206 are there any common faults or problems to look out for? I have posted a 'want' in the wanted section too.

Thanks,

dsiingh

Plenty. Search it. But most would say it's the worst 206 engine. Faptastic.

You often get anti pollution fault or something along the lines of the dpf blocking.

Forgot about that little search feature, i'd be driving it up and down on the motorways so it'll regenerate the dpf , or is it just a random fault which comes up

It doesn't work driving up and down motorways if it's completely blocked, you'll either have to replace it or have it removed with the ECU software changed. Costs around £500 which is a lot cheaper than having the unit replaced by Peugeot.

Even with it removed you'll still have the additive warning message come up. Mine has been on for 2 weeks now, just got to drop the tank and pour some diesel or AdBlue into the reservoir to cure the problem.

Various electrical issues have arisen like ABS and ESR faults. But these go away if you turn the car off and back on again.

The only annoying issue I have currently is the Aircon as sometimes it has a mind of its own and blows out cold air when its meant to be hot and sometimes the other way around. Very awkward now the mornings are getting cold!

So it has some electrical devils underneath? Can these be rectified, how much have you spent on it in repairs etc(if you dont mind me asking)

Laughing

As said above, use the search function. It's been covered before and there are more faults than the DPF to look out for.

It cost me £450 to remove the DPF and that is the only money i've spent on it, other than a service and I have covered 22k miles this year.

Ive had this same engine in our 407 1.6 hdi and it was a pleasure to own, i think all these engines are dv6, it really depends how you maintain the car, on my one the oil was changed every 6k miles along with filter plus additive. Only problem we had which knew the car was on its way out was around 100k the low oil pressure light, which we changed the pump we bought off ebay iirc for around £50, changed the oil and filter again drove fine. Then a month later the turbo went, so sold it and bought a Touareg :). Id go for the 407 1.6 hdi or the 2.0 hdi, over the 206 as you can pick them up cheap.

Same engine, different car and generation so not really relevant for the 206.

Yeah what im trying to say is, the engine is good as long as you maintain is properly, then again its your luck i suppose with cars.

Yeah sometime it is down to look, depends what the previous seller or dealer hides from you at the point of sale. I am considering purchasing one as ill be doing a lot of motorway miles and petrol isnt rewarding me with any savings

Got a GTI HDI 6 weeks ago and love it. Looks very similar to my old GTI 180 which I like.Pulls like a train, handles like a GTI, and more torque than the GTI 180. On a run its giving 60mpg and day to day 20 mile run each way to work its avg 53mpg Smile
IF you get the DPF fault they can be replaced for just over £200
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130...1423.l2649
Or you can have it removed and remapped for approx £400-£500
Find a good one with full history and well serviced and keep it serviced and im sure you'll enjoy it. But like any older car don't expect 100% reliability

Summarised for everyones sake:

- DPF clogging

- Additive fluid level

- Injector Leaks

- Turbo failure (via blocked oil lines normally)

- Airbox intake pipe loose

- Oil pump seal leak

- Engine failure via sump pick up blocked

- Fuel filter waxing (very common in winter!)

I will always state the engines are amazing, but only if they have been serviced regularly!
