#1: losing coolant Author: moonbutter73, Posted: Tue Oct 29, 2013 10:05 am ---- hi there, since changing my radiator 3 months ago im losing coolant when the car has build up pressure and running warm. it loses more if i give her a bit of a grilling! slightly moist around cap but no obvious drips. also car temp has always run at 80 but last few week started only getting to 70. pug 206 2ltr hdi. 51 plate. thanks

#5: Re: losing coolant Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Tue Nov 12, 2013 6:45 am ---- The temperature will be reading low, because the coolant is not reaching high enough to monitor the temperature sensor which is a green plug down and to the right middle of the engine cover, on the engine block.
When the engine is cold top the level up and start the car and see if its leaking around the plug, or anywhere else in the cooling system.

Have you tried (carefully) getting it up to temp with the cap off?? Make sure its not bubbling too much (headgasket coolant/bore leak)...
Any spots on the driveway/road?

#9: Re: losing coolant Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Fri Nov 15, 2013 9:21 am ---- You shouldn't keep filling water till it overfills, as in the expansion tank there should always be an air gap between the max mark and the filler cap, this allows for a space when the coolant expands when it is hot.
Read on here somewhere if you shine a torch at night, it should show you where the level is, make sure the engine is cold when doing it for correct reading.
