#1: 206 HDI voltage issue Author: aly051, Location: SunderlandPosted: Wed Nov 06, 2013 12:35 pm ---- My brother has a 2004 206 HDI Quiksilver.
Currently has a strange issue where when the car is running stationary the voltage is showing 14.2v there abouts as normal.
When you start driving it drops to 12v but then when you floor it the voltage then rises to 14v and when you lift off throttle it drops again to 12v. If the car is driven frugaly the battery can slowly discharge and overtime it needs charging back up. The battery light isn't on and there is no sound from the auxiliary belt. Car had a new battery last month
Any help appreciated.

If the headlights are dim, it indicates the lights are running off the battery and that little or no juice is being produced by the alternator.
If the lights get brighter as you rev the engine, it means the alternator is producing some current but may not be producing enough at idle to keep the battery properly charged.
If the lights have normal brightness and don't change intensity as the engine is revved, your charging system is functioning normally.
#3: Re: 206 HDI voltage issue Author: aly051, Location: SunderlandPosted: Wed Nov 06, 2013 1:13 pm ---- I understand that theory Drewden but when the car is stationary the voltage is always 14v and higher even with the headlights and all electrics on, well actually if you have everything on it drops to 13.8v I tested just there when its stationary everything seems fine just problems happen when you move.
When Im driving it with the voltage at 12v if I switch everything on it drops to 11v and then everything becomes dim.

Would also imagine you'd be getting 12v at idle if the alternator was on its way... nonetheless its the first thing to check, could have some sort of clutch/bearing inside it thats knackered... If it isn't alternator related check all the wiring to the alternator, BSI reset, etc.
Does the battery light come on with ignition? If not its more likely to be electrical rather than the alternator.
