#1: 2000 1.1 regular coil pack failure Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Tue Dec 03, 2013 5:51 pm ---- A friend has a 1.1 that seems to suffer regular coil pack failure every 2 years or so. I have not looked at the car and only just got to hear about this from my wife as it is her friend.
A quick look on the net and it seems there is either a black or grey type plug on the coil pack and I assume that is car dependent also prices vary from about £30 to £140. Are the cheap ones to be avoided at all cost (it is an old car and they don't have much money) and is there any reason these fail so often?
I don't know if previous replacements have been genuine Peugeot or not and whether cheap pattern part is reason for failure. That would be an easy to conclude reason but are there any other reasons that these fail so often?

1) The colour on the coil pack is not neccesarily the same as the connector of the loom colour: as fitted at the factory. (eg could be grey socket/black plug, or black/black).
2) If it's multiplexed there are two different type coilpacks, both with black connector on them.
3) Only way to make sure you get the right one is VIN check in servicebox to get the OEM part number and take it from there.
If the coilpacks trully are failing that often, then the ECU is faulty in all likelyhood (eg passing DC).

i bought a valeo one and bosch spark plugs from euro for less than £55
also if you give them your reg theyll run it through so you dont have to worry the only difference i could tell is one connectors black ones grey

Sageam are a grey area, we did supposedly suffer a few issues with them, but that could have been when they didn't have the condenser attached.
Genuine is normally vaelo or sageam, and if anything I rate NGK plugs better than genuine by any standards, as they are just s**t in my eyes. Taken out of one box, new label and shipped out again

Genuine are Eyquem (French) and are quite dear even directly from the manufacturer. Are you refering to Bosch which is what a lot of 'dealerships' are fitting?
