Hey, Everyone...

Well, this is awkward, haha.. Had a member complaining about drive shafts a few days ago, then a member telling me how the 17" vortex are too big and heavy for the 1.1's driveshafts.

I didn't really think much of it at the time, as I had done a reasonable amount of miles, but, yeah, driveshaft(s) have gone.. lol.

How much would you say drive shafts are each for a 1.1 with ABS etc? preferably new but a second hand price range would be nice too

Depends on your build code. But between £214 and £284 new and £133 and £177 for a recon from dealers. Plus a £57 surcharge per shaft.

IF you're lucky you might find genuine new on eBay for quite low prices.

Do you think they'd last a lot longer being new? if my 17" vortex's are what are actually knackering them, I would want them to last more than a few thousand miles

Check those guys out, fair few people have used them with no complaints, i used to run a pair on my vts after a while and they never failed me. Good prices too.
Can't guarantee they'll be perfect with your wheel choice but there you go.

Cheers, Dan:) will look into it. Having a friend come round tomorrow to check out my motor. It's only a minor knock at the moe at very low speeds, 4mph or so, so they've still got a week or two's life in them, haha.

Back in the day when i had a 1.1, i also did the same, In the end i went for 16" Nimrods, however i never fixed the issue, I also replaced the cv joins over changing the complete driveshafts.

If you want to fix the problem, you need to buy brand new from ECP, however dont forget that the there is labour on top which will be about £70.

Expensive job, just for the luxury of having 17" on a 1.1

I'll do all the work myself, it's just part pricing for me:) but it turns out it's not all bad, though! I originally thought the driveshaft had gone, but today I had time to actually get under the car and see what had actually happened, there is a bolt holding the bearing on the driveshaft that had came lose and the bearing was knocking... New bolt tomorrow and all should be good! That's what I'm hoping for anyhow! I am prepared for my driveshaft to go from running 17's, I knew they'd go in the long run anyhow when I first got them, I've done what I think has been 13,000 miles now, and they're still, somewhat (lol), working. I'd say the price to time range isn't as bad as it has been for others.

I'd say a 1.4 would be able to pull 17's.. Checked today, and my driveshafts are actually okay! a bolt had a knut come lose, and fell out! the bearing itself had been moving about making the noise... Fixed now! waheeey, cheapest repair EVER! haha:) I shall continue to lug on with my massive 17's!
