#1: drowned 206 Author: sparky777, Location: DevonPosted: Fri Dec 20, 2013 6:01 am ---- Firstly I have a 1.9D 2000 206.
Driving through a puddle probably only 6-8 inches deep. Car just cuts out, and refuses to start.
Right in the middle of a narrow lane with no room for anyone to get past to give me a tow. Luckily the bloke behind in his big landrover was happy to push me until he could get past in order to give me a tow.
So he tow's me a mile to the Nearest bus stop, and goes on his way.
So now I try to start the car again and after a couple of minutes of persuasion it now sounds like a 50cc moped and is smoking like dot cotton.
Never the less I'm about half a mile away from my house through the town. so I stick the hazards on and stutter and splutter my way home.
Anybody have an idea at how bad this might be?
Is it a case of drying the car out or has something more serious been affected.

#2: Re: drowned 206 Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri Dec 20, 2013 6:21 am ---- Worst case scenario is that you have damaged some of the internals, best case is you have got a wet air filter and water in the air intake pipes, Would be worth taking the air intake pipes apart to make sure they are dry and replace the air filter.

Fingers crossed its just a wet air filter, if not I think its time for a new car...

I did a similar thing in my 1.4 8v - saw a huge puddle in the middle of dual carriageway, about 4 inches deep, and thought it would be a good idea to go through it at 40. The only thing that cut out was the radio, for around 2 minutes. Won't be doing that again!

The electrics never cut out at all.

I need to be careful...I have a habit of seeing puddles and racing through them to see how big a splash I can make...maybe I had better not do this any more. Hope you 206 is ok after drying out a bit Sparky.

If the engine manages to gulp some water inside through the intake it will worst case scenario bend the connecting rods. As it tries to compress the water inside the cylinder. I've seen one 206 RC/GTI180 here (in Finland) that did this.. Had a intake system with the air pickup quite low in the engine bay, hit a big puddle and the engine was done. #8: Re: drowned 206 Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Fri Dec 20, 2013 2:14 pm ---- Well that is a deep water puddle,so what happen is that your engine sucked water through the air feed for the air filter,,so do as the Macca said,and check for water inside the airbox,and go from there,but you should of not tried to start it after getting in the there,so that no water get inside the engine,or you will nee more work to be done.
