Fuel additives for 2.0hdi - good idea?
-> 206 Talk

#1: Fuel additives for 2.0hdi - good idea? Author: SorinB PostPosted: Fri Jan 03, 2014 2:59 pm
    ----
I have a 206 2.0hdi from 2000. I don't have any trouble with the engine, but the car already has over 200.000km. I heard about these additives for the fuel that clean the injectors and so on. Many people said the additives worked miracles for their engines, others went from saying they don't work to even damaging the injectors. Any opinions on this from diesel owners?

I use this and it must be doing something as it puts out anti pollution fault light and warning whenever it comes on.

Decent fuels have additives anyway.

Very true Edward they do, but try finding an Esso or BP nowadays. It's all supermarket pumps around me or travel miles to the nearest Esso which isnt always convenient, so additives will always have a place in the market and they are effective as you can decide the strength required Wink

Do you not have a Shell garage?

Having a dad that works at the ineos refinery is quite handy, turns out that all supermarkets use the same fuel as esso in which they have additives anyway. Only two that don't are Shell and BP, they only add their own additives, wouldn't imagine it being any great deal better to use an additive.

But do the additives that are found in the standard station fuel do the same thing as the ones from the market? Maybe I didn't express myself well enough. What I want to know about these additives (that I noticed had a wide variety) is whether or not they clean the cylinders, injectors and so on. I'm not looking for lower emissions or better fuel economy and things of that nature.

I recommend using a LIQUI MOLY,or WURTH ,and it's something good to be done after the mileage u got on clock,but better do this with a clean diesel filter.

@Timon: Thanks for the advice. I am planing to change all the filters and the oil next week, so that's why I'm asking about the additives now, so that I can prepare everything.

Tesco, Morrisons, Asda get their fuel from Shell, Esso or BP.

The only difference is the quality of additives that goes into the fuel before they go to the supermarket.

I've tried injector cleaner on a few diesels and its never made a difference to anything (by anything I mean cured symptoms, improved driveability, affected injector corrections in PP2000) so I'd go with it being a waste of money myself.
