steering wheel turns right, when accelerating

#1: steering wheel turns right, when accelerating Author: Sim, Location: West Country PostPosted: Tue Jan 07, 2014 6:36 pm

Hello, I'm back Smile

6 months ago both wishbones replaced, and done 4 wheel tracking. The tracking has been done spot-on, but read on:

Problem: I take hands off steering wheel and the car drives spot-on straight, but when I push accelerator (the car is still driving spot-on straight!), wheel turns to the right; when I take foot off - wheel turns to the left; and when car goes evenly - steering wheel centres itself back.

Other checks: tyre pressure is fine, passenger front tyre is slightly more worn on the inside, but I think that's the side-effect of the problem cause.

I would suspect engine mounts, but what can I examine myself visually you'd recommend first, before taking to a garage?

Cheers!

i would say its your bottom engine mount, mine did exactly the same on my hdi, changed it for a vibra-techs solid mount, also check the angle of your rear mount as sometimes they can be fitted at the wrong angle causing this play as the driveshaft runs through it.
hope this helps

This still going-on?!
I will now admit I always have to fine-tune the tracking myself on both of my 206 in order to be finaly super-happy with the steering and handling.

I would say read again carefully your original long thread about this, which is in the 'Solved Problems' section.

I'll be watching this and chime-in if I think of something..

V9977 I've already read it through and through, this is another problem due to different symptoms, compared to the ones I had year ago.

As I've put it on www.206info.co.uk/Foru...tml#615353 :
<...> the best way to describe it is to be as detailed as possible, because causes vary a lot

Off to checking engine mounts tomorrow under the car, many thanks to denners for the tip

Just been under her:

Other mounts look fine too, no noticeable splits in the bushes, no play either (surely I cannot apply the force of engine torque)

Hummmmm :/ Will try also to engage clutch into 4th gear while in handbrake, to see if engine position warps (but hard to do such tests when I'm on me own)
