-> 206 Problems

#1: 206sw 2.0 hdi wont start Author: Barry0612 PostPosted: Sun Jan 12, 2014 11:00 am

Hi

I am unable to start my Peugeot 206sw 2.0 Hdi Deisel engine, 2005 model.

I have owned the car from practically new and have never had an trouble with the car. It has covered 78000 miles.

Two weeks ago I went out to start it and it wouldn't. There was plenty juice in the battery as it had cranked over no problem. I noticed that there was no short humming noise from the tank to prime the system so I checked all the fuses in the engine compartment fuse box. All were fine and when I went in to try again as soon as I turned the key I could hear the pump running and it started first time. I assumed I had soled the problem as the car ran fine when I took it for a drive for 15 miles. However, next morning exact same symptom as before......no fuel pump noise coming from the tank.

Checked all fuses and tried again and nothing. I decided to check connection at the pump under the rear seat and everything seemed ok. I decided to take the battery out and feed the pump directly with two wires so that I could see if the pump itself was faulty. When I touched the wires on the terminals the Pump ran fine so it appears that there is no power getting to the pump when I turn the key. all other electrical systems are fine. The car has never showed any warning lights on the dashboard when I have driven it. When it did start that fist time after I had the fault it drove along fine.

I had read somewhere about it possibly being a relay that may be faulty. But every location that's mentioned on forums ive looked up I cannot seem to locate this relay as some locations are different in different engines.

Can anyone give me any pointers on this relay location or what I do with it next. Im trying my best to avoid a garage for now due to lack of funds and hoped perhaps it could be a faulty fuel pump relay given the pump is working with a direct feed from battery.

sounds like you need a new fuel sender.

but the good news is that instead of paying the £116 - £174 that most places ask for you can actually just buy the motor it's self for just £32 from europarts Wink

FUEL PUMP MOTOR LINK

I suspect it's the fuse for the pump under the bonnet. Take the fuse out and check the condition of the terminals. I had exactly the same problem. Was caused by an electrical short that had corroded those terminals. Gave me an intermittent starting problem.

Hi

I put a brand new fuse in to make sure it wasn't a dodgy fuse. also checked down inside fuse location and no corrosion that would have me think it was a bad contact.

The previous reply about a fuel sender..............when I connected the battery direct to the pump I can hear the motor in it running and could also hear the fuel pressuring in the pipes up to the engine, so ive ruled that out as being the problem.

Fuel pump relay? I would try plugging a scanner in and checking for codes

I don't have a scanner to check for codes. I was just trying to rule out what I could and maybe avoid garage charges if I could. fuel pump relay.......I read somewhere a common fault can be a double relay that feeds the fuel pump....but cant locate this and that was what I was hopeful someone could point me in the right direction.

Its under the ECU. Get someone to turn the ignition on while you stick your head near it, you should hear it priming.

Try a different key in case the immo chip has stopped working

Not sure if the diesel has the fuel cut off inertia switch under the bonnet. I know not all petrol models do, but might be worth checking in case it has activated for some reason.

read elsewhere to check under the ecu but there's nothing there.

tried both keys.....still no pump noise. don't think this car has a fuel cut off

A 2005 models fuel cut off is ecu controlled. Check the earth strap from battery to gearbox, another common problem.

Bit interesting about where the relay is located, in peugeot service box it says mine is located underneath the ECU, (thats with my VIN imput as well) i could not locate it for love nor money anywhere in the engine bay.

I had the same senario has yourself a couple years back, would start, wouldn't start, till eventually the priming noise was none existant, so ended up calling a auto elec through a friend.

He turned up at my house and litterally got the priming noise and the car started within 2 minutes, god knows what he did, (he was fiddleing inside the engine bay).

Cut a long story short i followed him to the garage and he bridged a wire going into the engine bsi.

May be worth trying a BSI reset

Hi

Just to let you know the outcome of the starting problem with my car.

I ended up putting the car into a local garage for them to check the electrics. It transpired that there was no power going to the ecu from the fusebox in the engine. I had to have the complete engine fusebox replaced. Apparently relays etc are all integrated into the fuse box underneath the fuseboxox on my model so the whole thing was replaced and it starts first time everytime again.

Thanks for the suggestions. Hope my problem will help someone with a similar problem in the future know where to look.
