#1: 206 SW Rear Suspension Author: RoaringMeg, Location: West LancashirePosted: Tue Jan 21, 2014 12:02 pm ---- Hi All,
I have just bought a 52 plate (2003) 206 sw estate with 2.0 Hdi engine. Whilst driving along there appeared to be a couple of banging noises from under the rear of the car. One of these was the spacesaver wheel banging about in the spare wheel carrier. I had this problem a while ago on a 206 2.0 Hdi hatch that we had and cured it by fitting a normal steel rim spare wheel in the carrier which stopped all movement. Again I have cured that problem on this 206 sw but there is still a horrible banging noise when travelling over a speed hump or hitting the odd pot hole. It sounds like the shockers have been replaced by bricks and I was wondering if worn rear shockers are a common cause of this or perhaps the mounting bushes on the rear axle assembly may be causing this? The car has standard Peugeot Scirocco Alloys fitted.

#4: Re: 206 SW Rear Suspension Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Tue Jan 21, 2014 12:56 pm ---- Is the exhaust hitting the lower torsion bar? Got any pictures to show how the exhaust is routed over the lateral link bar?
#5: Re: 206 SW Rear Suspension Author: RoaringMeg, Location: West LancashirePosted: Thu Jan 23, 2014 8:23 am ---- I will have a clearer picture on Saturday Edward when I fit a new exhaust back box. I know that the current back box which is rotten is banging against the heat shield on the spare wheel carrier and gives a distinct ringing tone when it does.

The rest of the exhaust is also clear of any obtrusion so I am left with the last of the banging noises. It is only apparent when riding through a pot hole or over a speed hump but is not noticeable when driving along. I have been told by my friend who works at Peugeot that it is possibly the bearing in the radius arm on the axle, has anyone come across this problem?

I have a similar sounding problem but its only on the right rear wheel. If i go over manhole covers with the left wheels - no noise, but on the right, the rear seems to bang. Cornering and motorways are absolutely fine so I am assuming that it isnt the dreaded whole axle problem? fingers crossed.
