#1: Air Bag Light - Question Author: Achillez PostPosted: Mon Mar 10, 2014 7:34 pm
    ----
Hello Everyone,

Last Week I hit my car, Passenger side wing, Was going about 20mph, Don't think it was any faster, and since Air Bag light has appeared, No air bags have been deployed tho. Garage has repaired my car but Air bag light is still on. Since Hitting the car Passenger seat belt kinda locks when someone pulls it to belt them self in. on the day I crashed someone was sitting in the passenger seat with belt on. I think it locks up where that person moved forward with the force of impact. Do I just need to replace the seat Belt reel and then get mechanic to reset the air bag? I'm Planning on selling this car and I don't want to sell it with faults.

Any Help Would be brill.

thanks

you need to plug it into peugeot planet. That would tell you exactly the faults.
In this case its a safe bet that they need replacing.

Very Happy

Should there be like a sensor or something on the seat belt reel?

My dad is breaking a 1.9diesel or 1.6, can I replace it with one of them?

Also my father has the snapon diagnostic computer thingy, will this do what Peugeot planet does?

Thanks

If same part number. You don't mention the years of the cars as they change around 2002 from pre-mux to mux so very different wiring systems.

It is a generic code reader but whether it reads the airbag system is another matter ... some do, some don't.

Ok, thanks. Hopefully change seat belt reel then reset all gone.

If in fact it is the same as mine mux, will it matter if the part numbers don't match? I mean if the seat belt looks exactly like mine but parts numbers different will it still work?

Thanks

Just plugged the other seat belt reel, plugged in the snap on machine and couldn't clear codes - came up with a fault. it says pretension-er fault. it also says Passenger pretension-er present even when plugged in or not. it shows steering column airbag absent ( Even tho this did not fire off ).

Came up as pretensioner fired ( P10A0 ) can't find any info on that code

Anyone got any ideas ? also does anyone know where the airbag main unit is hidden? I might need to replace that.

Cheers

As said by previous posters, you'd be better off using PP2000 to diagnose the fault.

The airbag ECU is located under the ashtray in the centre console. If you get a second hand one you may get lucky and it will be plug and play, failing that you'll need to connect to PP2000 to activate/deactivate various functions on the ECU.

Just an update, pp2000 didn't have the function Airbag Crash data reset srs.

Faults it did find was:

Airbag ECU: Permanent fault, seat belt deployment
Airbag ECU: Remote intermittent fault. Vehicle speed information ( not sure what this is )

Tried to reset the faults and came up with no parameter available.

Does anyone know any software to reset airbag crash data? I have carprog - not tried this yet tho

Thanks

Don't think you can reset the crash data as otherwise unscrupulous sellers would be selling cars with this reset and the safety system not working correctly.
Cheapest thing to do is find a car being broken that is the same spec as yours and try the ECU out of that. Not sure if they are plug and play, but if not, you already have access to PP2000 so shouldn't be a problem setting it up. If you can't check the ECU in the donor car, get a guarantee from the seller that if there is crash data stored on it, then you can get a refund.

We could have told you that if you had asked.

Airbag crash data has been reset - used carprog, once I reset that, plugged the unit back in the car, used pp2000 to clear the codes and all gone. If there was a problem with the airbag system, the lights would appear again. etc if I still had the pretension-er that had been deployed plugged in, the airbag light would keep appearing, So I don't think people can get away with selling cars with airbags not functioning, unless they remove the airbag bulb.

Problem was, I didn't even know about data crash stored onto airbag ecu until yesterday morning.

After a few days airbag light has appeared again but this time it isn't reading any faults, tryed pp2000 and snapon. None reading any airbag fault. Anyone had this issue?

Thanks

Peugeot Planet should be able to read it.

Maybe erasing the crash data wasn't such a good idea after all Wink
