Oil Filter leak
-> 206 Problems

Hi all, would appreciate any suggestions to the problem I have just notice on my 206 GTI 180. The oil filter had started to leak, only very slightly but enough to notice on my brick paving. Not sure why this has only just started as it's been fine for almost 10 months? Done some ready up regarding cleaning the surface and oiling the seal then just putting it back on hand tight!

Decided to do an oil and filter change today, but notice while running my finger along the top of the filter as it screws onto the engine and notice very slight oil there again? So I'm a bit stuck as to why I'm still getting a leak?

It may just simply settle down but any advice would be appreciated especially if I'm doing something wrong!.

Thanks Smile

I suspect the leak is actually from the Heat exchanger - Engine block seal rather than the Oil filter - Heat exchanger seal. Easy enough to change just means you'll be taking your nice shiny filter back off again lol.

Easiest way to check i would say is get some brake cleaner and clean the whole area and then either run it and watch or go for a drive first depending on how bad the leak is.

Hi DanT,

Thanks for your advice and sorry for the delayed response to your helpful advice.

I have a further quick question, do you know exactly where the drain valve is located
as I can't seen to find it and have checked the bottom of my radiator and that does not have a drain valve there, can't seem to find it as don't want to just unclip a hose to drain the coolant for it to go everywhere!!!!

Thanks Smile
