Guys,

Cant find a wiring diagram and trying to sort my Omex this afternoon.

Which colour wire do I need to hook to for the tacho/rev output?

MANY MANY THANKS!!

Ok - no problem - got all other wires in place and the signal wire ready to go..

Cheers

Update - this isn't going to work with Omex system.

The ignition is four separate coils and the system only accepts one feed, so when set up on one wire, it thinks each fire is from four cylinders whereas it only receives the feed from one cylinder, therefor when it is revving at 2000rpm, it think the engine is turning over 500rpm.

You can set it to run in 2 cylinder mode to half this, but the reading becomes inaccurate.

Long story short, you can't use Omex Shift System with your 206 GTi 180.

Anyone had success with anything else??

**EDIT** Keep reading - you can use it if you persevere!!! **EDIT**

Did you use diode mode for getting signal ? Also isnt there any multipler at Omex ?

GTI180's both injections and ignitions full sequential. Which is good for engine but bad for installing aftermarket parts.

I'm uploading a PDF file for diode mode. Thats for 2 coils on wasted spark mode but I think you can use this.

Schumi - many thanks for your reply. Looks like you know more about this than me!!

I spoke to Omex technical and all they told me was to switch to 2 cylinder mode and set the shift limit to half of what I wanted. But strangely enough, setting the unit to 2 cylinder mode and the limit to 1000rpm, the shift light didn't come on until a little after 4000rpm, which is what I would have expected from the unit set to 4 cylinders. Very strange.

I assume a multiplier would do just that... multiply the signal 4 times to replicate the required signal? The diode you mention I am lost - could you explain a little more?

I also assume that there is a pin from the BSI unit somewhere which will feed the tachometer which would do the job, but again... no idea where to start looking.

Do you just need shift light or are you installing rev limiter of Omex ? Which unit is that. Is it Omex Launch Control ?

The unit is a rev limiter as well as a shift light, but obviously that doesn't work on just the one feed. It is called the Shift System and has a single LED. They do both a single and twin coil version - I have the single coil version at the moment.

Ideally I want the limiter working as well.

You cant use single coil version. The truth is GTI180 have 4 independent coils. Because of full sequential ignition.

Yes - discovered that. But despite my earlier finding.. you can - with a bit of clever mathematics - get the unit to work to shift as the desired point.

It is expecting a signal from 4 cylinders, you give it the signal from just one, BUT it is a stable signal. Multiple the rev range by 4 and you have your magic number. Then factor in that you can move the light shift to come in upto 2500rpm before the rev limiter, so juggle your figures and you have what you want.

You can - as I have also done, set it to two cylinders, and this will half the signal again, so you have less variation between the limit/shift points.

TA-DA!

When I said you cant use I dont mean shift light. If you just a shiftlight then simple math will help you. But rev limiter or launch control is different story. Actually you can still use it. But you can only connect one cylinder so rev limiter is cuting ignition signal on same cylinder every time. It will make knocking on your engine. Your CEL light will come up and engine will go LIMP mode. Also if you still try that your piston will melt. Smile

But there is no problem using this product as shiftlight.

Very Happy

Yup - could use it and cut out the one cylinder - that would be fun... but agreed, the maths will rectify the issue, but careful what you phrase as "simple" - not everyone may be as patient as we are!!
