2001 Peugeot 206 1.1 petrol Running Problem

#1: 2001 Peugeot 206 1.1 petrol Running Problem Author: Onanysaturday PostPosted: Thu Apr 03, 2014 2:02 pm
    ----
Hi I purchased a 206 a few months ago. It hadn't ran for a long time. Around a month ago the head gasket failed, this was because emulsified oil in the cooling system had rotted the head gasket. The emulsion was flushed out, the gasket replaced and the head was skimmed. A few weeks after the work was carried out when the car was started from cold it would run on three cylinders for the first ten seconds or so then run fine. I replaced all of the spark plugs to try and resolve the problem but while doing so I snapped an "air way nozzle" off the inlet manifold so I replaced it. I started the car and it would rev up and down ranging from 800rpm to 2000rpm . I tried to identify the problem and noticed that when I touched the temperature sensor on the cylinder head it would have a small effect on the revs. The problem has progressively gotten worse and now when the car starts it runs on three cylinders for the first few seconds then climbs to 4000rpm and dies and the temperature gauge does what it wants, but once up to temperature it runs perfectly. Could it be a faulty temp sensor?

Any help on identifying the problem would be much appreciated, Matt.

If you can get hold of a code reader plug it in and see what faults come up ,Maplins sell one for a reasonable price .

Thanks for the reply. I soldered a new cylinder head temperature sensor block connector on and it works perfectly now.

I would do a compression test.

Another good trick is to buy an infra red temperature sensor (cheap on auction sites) and measure the temperature of each exhaust manifold header. The coolest one will be the cylinder with the misfire.

The car doesn't misfire now that I have replaced the block connector. It runs perfectly.

Sorry, my web browser didn't refresh so I posted without knowing you had fixed the fault.
