#1: AC Compressor Issues Author: Dazzaschofield, Posted: Mon Apr 14, 2014 11:13 am ---- Hi All,
I have a 206 1.6 1999 5 door petrol.
Recently the AC compressor started squeaking/smoking and now looks to be dead.
Because it has seized the aux drive belt wont turn and therefore the car wont start.
Im not bothered about the air con so Im just looking for an old ac compressor that will turnso the engine will still start.
Only problem is im not 100% sure what compressor will work in the car..obviously the the deisle wont work but will a compressor for a 2.0 be compatible? Or i have see one listed for a peugeot 206 between 1999 and 2008 will this work?
Can I even run the car without a working compressor or will it need to be fully working and repressurised?
Thanks in advance for any help

Either replace the defective compressor
OR
Remove the compressor & fit the shorter drive belt.

I have bought the shorter belt made for a 206 without AC but with PS but I still can't seem to fit it.
The problems is there is some sort of spring (shown in picture) which is preventing the belt from going on.
Also even with this sping removed it seems that that the new shorter belt is still too long.
Does anyone know what the sping is? is it just the housing for the AC compressor?
Think I might be buying an old compressor at this rate and just attaching without connecting up to the engine so the pully still turns and allows the engine to run.
Who needs air con in the UK anyway!!

Its great for de misting the windows quickly in the winter & also keeping the inside of the car cool in summer.
