Speedo out :/

While driving along the other day I came past a 40 slow down sign so I did..got to 40 n still lit up so drive past again slowed to 30 on dial n finally went off which to me was strange..so grabbed my dads sat nav with my girlfriend sat next to me reached 30 on dial but 40 on sat nav!!

What the hell could be causing this as it's starting annoy me but I also seem to be drinking ALOT of fuel at the moment with very little travel!!!

Have you changed tyre size?

Yea I do wanna get it checked out but wouldn't know where to start n nope same size wheels since day brought it 205/40/17 with 38psi
