Can I add an additional key

#1: Can I add an additional key Author: lisaskye, Location: Australia PostPosted: Tue Oct 14, 2014 5:57 am

Currently I have a 206 GTi 180 that has 2 keys

Service box states the following was the keys under vehicle characteristics

SET OF KEYS 1 HF PLIP KEY + 1 SINGLE MAIN KEY

Can I add a 3rd key being a remote PLIP key or is it locked to only having 1 off each type of key?

I have PP 2000 etc to make any necessary changes.

Thanks
Dave

Lee tried a few years ago to add another remote key onto mine but was unsuccessful, although the immo chip was able to be programmed.

My 2003 GLX left the factory with 2 HF plip leys, I had a standard non remote key added to the car many years ago by Peugeot main dealer.

I currently have a total of 3 key's that all start the car.

The remote is only really needed to ARM the alarm system, the rest you can do with the key in the door barrel.

OP - Your in Australia, so the GTI 180 spec is different to UK car's Wink

My 2003 GTi came with 2 remote keys as well. Just Peugeot being Peugeot with the luck of the draw as to what you got.

The OP is down under so the 206 they will have will be an Australian spec model which is different to the UK one Wink

For a start there's no passenger airbag deactivation key switch - there banned in Australia.

Hi all, am the new owner of a black peugeot 206 GTI 138, only had it a week now and have been doing a fair bit of searching for answers. This Forum has loads of info.

What I have is a single key for my car, the buttons don't seem to arm the alarm or lock the doors, everything has to be done with the key in the door. The button on the fob flashes red if I push it. My first question, is there anyway to tell if the battery in the fob is flat or does it just stop working? Secondly, could the previous owner have had alarm issue so therefore somehow disabled this function and then lastly could I buy and reprogram a second key off of fleabay, I don't have the owners manual but managed to find some info on the 206cc which mentions a code, what is this used for?

Judging by this thread it appears there may be a limit to the number of keys synced with the car?

Anybody?

I have a feeling that the old owner perhaps replaced a key and wasn't aware he/she wouldn't be able to reprogram the key. Reading on here it looks like I would need Peugeot world to recode the key but I managed to find this link

www.programyourkeys.co...tions.html

is this just for the immobiliser? Seems to conflict with some of the info I found on here?

That will only resync an already programed key to the car after a battery replacement.

Cheers for that MrBSI, so when the battery in the car is replaced it forgets about the key? My key looks pretty old so could it be a case that the battery was replaced and the key was never re synced, I have also read that changing the battery in the fob also might reset things is this true?

Is there potentially anything that could go wrong if I try and re sync a non programmed key?

Nope, the car will just total ignore a non programmed key.

Aaaah cheers for that! Was just a little cautious on trying stuff after reading the problems with removing the battery on multiplexed vehicles. I will give it a go and let you know how i get on. I had a nightmare last night that my car was stolen! lol shows how badly i want the alarm sorted although Im not sure it is a good thing. If the previous owner didnt look into fixing the key issue what else might be wrong Surprised

Right so i get home tonight and attempt to re-sync the keys. I hold the big button as per the instructions in the link above... Car doors lock and the lights flash, push it again and nothing happens, again and the doors open. I then checked up how to engage the alarm, pushed the big button and the doors lock again, then the small button and the doors make a second click and there's a red flashing light on the dash. Seems like I have to be fairly close to the car to get the central locking etc to work but at least it does work lol

Is this normal regarding the being fairly close? I recently replaced the battery and as above thought I would have to re-sync the key but didn't in the end.

For your non plexed 206 with deadlocking:

Big button locks the car, small button pressed within 3 seconds sets the deadlocks & arms the alarm system.

Cheers for that MrBSI, I did manage to find the info on the buttons nad it is currently locked and armed. I did have to be fairly close to the car to set it, is this normal? Could the new battery I put in be a bit duff?
