Just come back from the garage and I've had a bit of work done.
So i get back to the garage to pick the car up and see how the work went and all went well. I had the front left wheel replaced as it was worn, a new cat with a new exhaust pipe and back box. Along with the gaitor cover replaced just so it would pass the mot.
long story short(er) I was told i need the lower? suspension arms replaced?
Are these a common problem on 206's and how much do they normally cost to replace?
I was quoted between £150-160 including labour, good or bad?
I did what any person would do and checked around other garages for prices and one garage quoted £229.23,which is bad compared to the original price.
How long does the work normlly take as i was under the impression it takes around 1- 1 and a half hours.

The cheaper ones don't last long on a CC or GTI ... possibly the heavy engines or strain from wide wheels. It tends to tear the rubber mountings.
I've got two FAI ones from online-automotive to fit next week to our CC. Around £100 the pair. inc vat and del.
They take me 1 1/2 to 2 hours per side and I'm not a mechanic nor can get the car up on a lift which makes the job much easier.

Yeah the gent said i'm best off doing both sides.
When he said 150 for the job i was like what! after forking out 191, but looking at what you guys said its a lot cheaper.
I've gone through a set of tyres from it, as it's wearing the inside of the tyre. So replacing them is a must by the look
Hard to answer but what's the life time for the cheap ones?
Really i want the car to last as long as possible as I've been looking at the 2.2 turbo civics as the insurance is cheaper, but if I'm fixing the car i might as well keep it for a while longer then sell it on.
Is it possible they'll find more problems when changing the arms or?

Plus budget for tracking afterwards or you will scrub the new tyres again!

Very true, something can always go wrong!
I was thinking about that, when i finish my first of two shifts tomorrow i'll pop in and ask how much the tracking will cost.
Just debating where to get the mot done as the garage I've just had work in is offering an mot at £54 odd with a retest or the new place up the road which is £36 for the mot but £15 for a retest,and they'll pick up the car and drop is off.

If left at the testing centre for repair, then no retest fee if work is carried out before 10 working days is up.
If you take it away and return before the end of the next working day, then no fee applies, but only for certain things. Mainly those that don't require the tester to do more than open the door.
Take the vehicle away and return within 10 days then a partial fee may be charged.

Author: pug_206_uk, Location: Stoke on trentPosted: Sat Oct 25, 2014 10:42 am ---- I would not pay £54 for an mot!, I've just paid £30 and the retest is free, i have the same problem as both my arms are bust but I'm buying cheap ones from eBay for £57 delivered and i get both suspension arms, track rod ends and drop links, doing this as well as my track rod ends are looking worse for wear, there cheap I know but even if i was to buy from euro car parts it would be £106 for the same lot and even that only comes with 1 year warranty, the cheap lot from eBay has 1 year warranty so it has to be eBay, i only have a 1.4 hid and steelies fitted now so they won't be under much strain and short on funds at the moment, what I plan to do is powerflex all the bushes later in the year.

I've just been on Groupon and I've found a few deals in Cardiff, and now that's tempting me to buy one of those as i'll save a small amount of dough.

Makes sense to do it that way as i'll save money, but i prefer to get a garage to fit the parts as i do want to learn how to do more major jobs but scared i'd muck it up.

Cheap arms can fail in a weeks and few cheap one last longer than 12 months. Why save on parts then pay the garage twice to do the job?

He's booked in for new suspension arms and an mot.
Anyone know how long each job will take?
I know it's a high price for an mot but I'll just take the hit this month.
Hopefully it passes first time.

I've just changed mine after I took my coil overs off I went to get the car tracked and I was told I had 1 degree of positive camber which is not good, the car felt like it was fighting to stay on the road. I then found out that there are 2 different types of wishbone and mine had the expensive ones . I paid £82 for the pair which is almost twice the price of the other ones. I don't know what year they changed them on but mine's an 04 plate.

that they came with different bushes.
Like the gti arms come with better bushes in as standard

That's interesting to know. Well the arms are done and the pug passed the mot but he changed the rear bearing on the drivers side.
The advisories are as follows;
Petrol tank strap corroded
Offside front cool spring corroded
Near side front cool spring corroded
Near side rear tyre close to limit.
When I picked up the car I asked for a quote on all the advisory work and he quoted me around £280?
Good? Bad?
I can buy the new tyre else where for £13 cheaper than his price for on, so that's no worries. We regardes to the work that need doing I'll do it in steps and see if anything else pops up.
Interesting to know about the different type of arms, I'll find out if they are the correct ones when I get the tracking done I suppose

can find em, the misses puts everything away. If your going to have too change your springs I'd change the top mounts too, best £55 I've spent on mine yet.

Tank strap is pretty standard on a 206, they all rust unless treated.
Tyre, meh just a tyre - depends on what brand they were offering that could reflect on the price
The offside and nearside springs are what will bump the price up. Time/Labour and possibility of knackard droplinks/top mounts

I've already changed the drop links 2 weeks age. Best part I'be change on a car, as the knocking was very irritating.
I've got a quote for tracking and it seems a standard prive of £30 for 90% of garages,so I'll get that done this weekend before it wears the tyres.
