I thought it would use standard GTI drive shafts. Isn't the gearbox in the same position as standard?

It not the position of gearbox that's the problem the shaft gearbox side different both needed shortened about 20 to 30mm

What shafts have you used?

#6: Re: My sw v6 project Author: pugsyhdi PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2015 12:50 pm

Used the 406 coupe ones shortened well twice on driver side as cut it to much lol

#7: Re: My sw v6 project Author: Edward, Location: In the garage PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2015 12:52 pm

That's why then. If the gearbox is in the standard position for a 206 then standard 206 shafts would fit.

No had a pic but can't find it the input shaft to the diff is totally different also back mount in different position. so the long shaft from diff to back mount would be to short

Can you not mix and match CV joints and shafts instead?

#10: Re: My sw v6 project Author: pugsyhdi PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2015 2:22 pm

No plus the v6 ones were bulkier better of using them ( I had lot shafts to play with broke lots French cars had a pile at the time )

The way I cut and welded them will be fine some burn outs tests were done lol

I'm thinking the car originally had a TU engine and MA gearbox didn't it?

#12: Re: My sw v6 project Author: pugsyhdi PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2015 4:58 pm
    ----
It was a big meaty 1.1 lol stupid engine for a sw

#13: Re: My sw v6 project Author: Edward, Location: In the garage PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2015 5:15 pm

And is it a 5 speed box on the V6?

#14: Re: My sw v6 project Author: Addaz, Location: Suffolk PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2015 5:27 pm

Edward the boxes are different. The V6 uses an MCP? If i remember correctly

Personally i would have used the inner sections of the joint, so they go into the box okay and dont leak then use the 206 outer sections

Yes it is the standard V6 one

It would be like trying to put a 1.6 shaft in to a 2.0 box they don't fit

#17: Re: My sw v6 project Author: Edward, Location: In the garage PostPosted: Mon Jan 12, 2015 3:41 am
    ----
The 1.6 shafts and hubs aren't as big as GTI/diesel parts. Any shaft from a Be4 gearbox would have been a better start.

#18: Re: My sw v6 project Author: yeti86, Location: Poland PostPosted: Mon Jan 12, 2015 4:29 am

1.6 16V has the same hubs as gti

#19: Re: My sw v6 project Author: pugsyhdi PostPosted: Mon Jan 12, 2015 5:39 am
    ----
Some 1.6 would have same ends on it as a 2 litre but I would imagine the back mount in different position so would not fit as long one goes throw it

No BE shaft will fit as I say the diff/box ends are different also the distance from box to the back mount is different

I might managed to make one without welding but I though if I was welding one might as well do both as 3.0 shafts better

one with more splines is v6 one totally different

bottom one v6

3 different inputs to 3 different boxes

Would a Be4 box fit the V6 ?

#22: Re: My sw v6 project Author: pugsyhdi PostPosted: Mon Jan 12, 2015 10:18 am
    ----
No totally different and probably would not be as strong

#23: Re: My sw v6 project Author: Addaz, Location: Suffolk PostPosted: Mon Jan 12, 2015 10:40 am

You only running 200, shaft strength is a concern. I would personally be fitting the be/206 shaft ends to the 406 shafts/inputs

#24: Re: My sw v6 project Author: pugsyhdi PostPosted: Mon Jan 12, 2015 11:52 am
    ----
As I say tried that still need cut so best to use strongest shaft also way I welded them I have no worry

I ment to say NOT a concern, but still that welded shaft looks dodgy as!

Best of luck anyways though
