#1: Power steering gone, now car won't start Author: ChristieC, Posted: Fri Jan 23, 2015 8:56 pm ---- Hi hopefully someone can help me.
I drive a 2005 1.4s.
It started a couple of days ago when the car started making a rattling noise (coming from engine area) and now today as I was driving round a roundabout, the power steering stopped working completely.
I was at work so didn't drive car for about 8 hours and when I came to drive it everything seemed fine bar the power steering not working however when I used my wipers and put windows down everything was going very VERY slow. As I was driving home all sorts of warning lights came on including battery, handbrake and a stop light. I turned car off to see if it was an electrical fault and it wouldn't start so had to bump start down a hill!!
I made it home thank goodness however car won't start at all. It's not even turning over.
What's wrong? Is it just my battery is completely done or something more serious?
Thanks
Christie

Once that belt stops working it affects the power steering and the alternator, which will explain why you are having the problems.
Time to lift the bonnet and have a look

If one of the pulleys or bearings has given up, a bit more expensive. Most likely one to fail is the tensioner pulley which are about £50 plus fitting. Might as well throw a new belt on at the same time

And it would be good idea to have the battery charged before you start the engine again,as it will have low voltage.
