#1: brake pedal goes to the floor Author: johnpidge PostPosted: Sat Mar 21, 2015 5:27 am

Ok - I have had fun and games with my GTI 138 - now I have a spongy pedal that with a little force will go to the floor - it stops the car but in an emergency?????

I have changed discs all round - pads all round (including green stuff up front) - front hoses (were a bit rusty/crusty) and even the brake master cylinder - bled the whole system - oh and new nipples on the front callipers -

Still spongy pedal - and I can push it the floor

I cant seem to get the abs to kick in - although I am a little reluctant to try too hard for obvious reasons

What is causing this - the servo looks quite new and the old master cylinder wasnt leaking all over it

Have been trowing money/parts at it and still the pedal is rubbish - with this lot changed it should take my face off when i hit the pedal

Help

And obviously checked for leaks and topped up etc after bleeding the system

No leaks anywhere

How was the brake bleeding carried out?

Pressure bleeding? Vacuum bleeding? or manual pedal pressing bleeding?

New discs & pads will result in a spongy pedal until there bedded in.

Discs and pads were done two/three weeks ago and they were fine - more recently noticed the pedal was going long - we changed the pads to green stuff and bled them the first time - then it got worse. They still stop the car but do not insprire any confidence arghhhhhhhhh

Used these for years on cars & forklifts including my 2 x 206's both with ABS & never had any issues.

As long as you follow the instructions & watch the maximum recommended air pressure they work fine. About 20 PSI tops on the one I used the other week.
