1.4 HDI Loss of power and in LIMP MODE (code PO603)

I've had a problem with my 1.4 HDI for a while now and its gone into LIMP MODE and won't rev over 3000RPM, in fact its been like this for over 6 months but just ignored it.

I did some of my own checks including the turbo, air flow sensor and pipes etc for splits and all seem fine.

So I took it to the garage where they plugged into into the computer and it came up with the code (PO603) which is a faulty ECU where it won't store the memory and basically he said it could be a wiring problem or a faulty ECU.

I've disconnected the ECU today and can see a bit of moisture in the plugs anyway i've connected them all back up and started the car and it revved over 3000RPM for about 20 seconds then returned to LIMP MODE where it wouldn't go over 3000PRM anymore, its does this every time I disconnect the 3 plugs into the ECU.

Has anyone had this problem as just unsure to let the garage check the wiring which will be 1-2 hours labour or do i replace the ECU as you can get the full Kit for about £60.

Have you checked all the battery connections, including the earths?
Check the alternator is charging the battery
You could try cleaning the ECU connectors with electrical contact cleaner.

First 2 are free and easy to do. 3rd one will cost about a fiver.

After that you start getting a bit more in depth and more expensive like checking continuity

If you have access to PP2000, you could try resetting the parameters as the car has forgotten the settings and is running on default values.

Do you have HIDs fitted?

Thanks for the help bud, I will check all the earths I do not have HIDs and do not have access to PP2000, The alternator is fine as never had an issue with starting it, starts 1st time all the time, I'm tempted to check all the earths and then buy a used ECU kit and go from there.

I'm sure the bsi is coded to the ecu and the locks. So might be more than just changing the ecu.

Try running the car with the maf sensor disconnected. Is the engine light on?

& the factory radio.

Add in the mileage is stored in the BSI so risk of tripping the anti clocking protection on the instrument cluster plus would a 2nd hand BSI be correctly configured for the equipment actually fitted to the car? Laughing

Not so much the locks, but the immo chip. Ideally you need the ECU, BSI, immo chip, alpha numeric security code and V1N from the donor vehicle, then a friend with PP2000 to pair your existing remotes, code any new chips if you are only given 1 and sort the options in the BSI out.
