Hi first post after trying to search for this problem that seams to be quite common.

I just bought a 2006 1.4 HDI, 135,000 miles

On driving it the 17 miles home it cut out 3 times once when stopping or slowing down and twice when pulling away.

There seams to be quite a lot of info about but as of yet I've found no given answer...

Things I understand I should check are.

Gearbox earth
Battery terminals
Diesel pipes under the air box
Any air leaks from the diesel pipes/injectors
Clean the ECU contacts
Clean the MAF (I think that's right)

Is there anything else I can do that will cost no money as I'm skint...

Thanks in advance
Thanks S

Pump the primer bulb thats to the left of the air filter (big oblong box thing).
While doing that look at the clear section of pipe that connects to it.
As you pump, look for any air bubbles.
Replace pipes under air box if there is any.
Replace earth strap that runs from gearbox to body and battery negative.

When it cuts out does it start immediately when you crank the engine or does the engine crank for a while?
If it cranks for a while then it might be the fuel filter blocked, next to the battery.
Unfortunately these are a sealed unit so you would have to replace that.

The 1.4 HDI usually doesn't have a low pressure pump in the tank, as mine doesn't and it's the same engine, but there have been posts on here where they do have especially if the car has been modified or a different engine at some point
They just have the hand primer bulb as mentioned in David P's post.
The 1.6 HDI and 2.0 engines do have them always.

You can check the gauze filter inside the fuel tank isn't blocked with crud.
This will mean removing the sender unit which isn't as bad as it sounds as it's just one large plastic nut holding it in.
The gauze filter is part of the sender unit assembly.
It is positioned underneath the rear passenger seat, on the driver's side.

Thanks guys for all your advice,
As soon as it stops it will start again no problem.

I'm not long in from work so fingers crossed I will get to take a look at it tomorrow night weather pending,

I will keep you posted on this one..

vid121.photobucket.com...7yolia.mp4

Well had a very quick look and it's very noisy round that side of the engine as though something is leaking, I hope the video works ok...

I sqeezed the primer pump and in the video it looks ok to me but it did have bubbles in it before I videoed it, quite a lot of them...

So should my next step be remove the rest of the air filter?

Thanks s

Fuel pipes more than likely split around the air filter. Time to replace.

Cheers for the quick reply so I take it I just remove the rest of the air filter and the pipe works under there?

Another question how do I release the fuel line connections ?

Thanks s

Squeeze the connectors.
