Rear Suspension VERY Stiff...?
-> 206 Problems

#1: Rear Suspension VERY Stiff...? Author: A18NHH, Location: Middlesbrough PostPosted: Fri Jun 26, 2015 2:48 pm

Hi all,

Car is a 2002 GTi 138 - it is lowered on the rear and the rear has always been stiff/harsh due to this but recently however it's become un-bearable - my assumption is the shock absorbers however on inspections there's no leaks....

Question is could it be anything else I could rule out before just changing the shocks?

Thanks in advance

Remove the dampers and see if the suspension moves any easier if you push up and down on it.

jack it up on the sills then see if the trailing arms move or even hang down, if its stiff or any in n out or forwards n backwards movement it could be time for a new rear beam

Just jacking it up (jacking by the sills ruins them by the way) without removing the dampers won't tell you if it's the dampers or axle bearings at fault.
