I have a 1.6 L, 110 HP 206 with an auto gearbox. It is a 2006 model, IINM.
After driving the car for 2-3 hours, gear changes from 1 to 2 and the opposite become absolutely atrocious.
Also, when I do a full stop but keep the gearbox in D and simply hold the brake, after I release the brake the car doesn't move. If I press the gas pedal, it still won't move; but after it reaches a certain RPM, the car suddenly goes into gear with a VERY loud bang, as if it's about to shatter the gear.
I live in armenia and unfortunately, there are no peugeot auto gearbox specialists here. Other mechanics simply keep changing parts until the problem is fixed; and if it's not fixed, well, then you're screwed.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
P.S. it doesn't behave like that when the engine/gearbox isn't hot yet (the first 30 min-1 hour of driving); well, at least not as bad. There is some slight kicking, but nothing major. Last edited by eddman on Fri Jul 10, 2015 4:01 pm; edited 2 times in total

Auto gearbox don't like worn out / dirty / burnt oil, it can gum up the hydraulic valves inside the box.
Please not that. I'm not sure I can afford a new gearbox.

About 3 weeks ago; maybe a bit longer. The mechanic cliams it's the correct spec, although he used mobil1 instead of esso.
There was some kicking before changing the oil, but it seems that it has become worse after the oil change, although it could just be a placebo effect.

Its the specification of the oil that has to be exactly correct for the gearbox.

Has the correct amount of oil in it?
Level is checked at 56 degrees if i remember correctly

Well, the mechanic says the level is correct.
The 206 that I have was assembled in iran, and it seems that this is a common problem. I wonder if it's the case with french 206s too.
I found a mechanic who is mostly working on peugeots, and he says that the culprit is most probably either in the converter or the clutch assembly, but he's not 100% sure.
He says I have two options:
1. change the converter, which costs 800$, plus his wage, 100$, but no guaranty that it'll fix the problem, although he's quite certain.
or
2. open the whole gearbox, which he's asking 300$ for, and look for the exact problem; but even then there is a possibility of not finding the culprit.
