Peugeot 206 noisy rear suspension?

#1: Peugeot 206 noisy rear suspension? Author: Berridale PostPosted: Thu Jul 16, 2015 10:13 am

Haven't had a good look yet, days and days of rain stopping me from doing anything.

Rear suspension is noisy, like something loose in the boot .
My wife was driving the other day and thought something wrong.

On left hand bends it feels like something is loose in the back.
Wheel is tight and no run out yet something is visible when following.

Any ideas?
If it is the trailing arm bearing/bushes will you get this much movement?
What's involved to change?

If it is the trailing arm bearing will you get this much movement?

The trailing arm bearings, is the GTI different and GTI180 different again?
Does the disc brake rear have the same trailing arms/bearings as on the GTI?

Sounds like the axle bearings have failed, a new axle is required.

When bearings fail enough to give movement they groove the stub pin in turn rendering the axlw useless.

I always recommend a recon axle at approx 250 but second hand is available at sub 75. Gtis have larger torsion bars so i advise if you have a gti one to get a gti one

Dry for the moment.
Jacked up the back just now, trailing arm bearings shagged.

I have a low klm wreck , will swap the whole assembly.
Will check it has all the bits.

*Just noticed the trailing arms for the ABS are different, machined for sensors.

Is there a link for replacing the bearings?

Read my post, replace the bearings and they will fail within a few months again

After a bit of research i found a lot of bulls**t about how difficult it is to do and the rip-off costs.

Go to this link on Youtube - youtu.be/fkMVaDVdVaI-- How to repair peugeot 206 axel part 2 /1
this one is very good to.- youtu.be/jY8n8gqnB0w --How to replace a Peugeot 206 rear trailing arm bearings.
Watch both a few times and you will understand the process, watch carefully.
The torsion bars can get stuck.
*Take your trailing arm measurements .
*Mark the torsion bar to housing positions.

It took me about 50 mins to get both sides apart and the bearings knocked out.
*The assumption is that the journal is not stuffed .
I linished the journals and they came up surprisingly well.
Once you understand the design it comes apart very easily.

My car is a GTI 2002 but it has the smaller 47mm journal, so check first before you get the parts.
Maybe GTI 180 cars have the larger 50mm journal.
*If you buy a whole assembly you must check if it is worn out and that it has ABS fitting.
There is no provision for lubrication!

Left to long the journals will chew out badly and then it is more troublesome.

The notes on Youtube are interesting , one guy was quoted GBP 1000 to fix the problem!
