Changing 1.4 HDi Starter Motor
-> 206 Problems

#1: Changing 1.4 HDi Starter Motor Author: Biggles, Location: Yorkshire PostPosted: Sat Sep 12, 2015 10:47 am

The starter motor on my 05 206 1.4 HDi is not working properly. When the engine is hot, it is reluctant to start. You just hear a relay clicking then after some agitation it catches and starts. I have a replacement starter motor but cannot get access to swap it over. With the battery and battery tray removed I can't even see thing. From underneath the drive shaft is blocking access. Has anyone tackled this one and able to provide instructionsn? It looks like a nightmare!

Are you sure it's the starter and not a broken earth strap?

Yes, previous owner had clearly been rooting around. It has a brand new earth strap. I'm guessing someone didn't want to pay for a mechanic to change it, might be a big job.

There is more than one earth strap, I would physically remove and inspect each of them before replacing the starter. Only a few broken wires on a strap will throw up issues.
