#1: Cigar lighter - need new one Author: Hogweed, Posted: Fri Oct 02, 2015 11:46 am ---- Hi all – just tried to use the cigar lighter for the first time, and it’s knackered – all rusty inside, don’t think it’s salvageable. How hard is it to get out and replace?
I pulled the gear gaiter up, and could reach it, but couldn’t feel how it was released…
Thanks a lot

Quickest way to get it out is probably to break off the orange rim and push it down.
Mounting the new requires to attach the bulb holder after the lighter as such has been pushed in place (if you want the ring to light up). Don't know if that's doable through the openings or if you need yo undo the console (IIRC pull off the handbrake 'cover', loosen the gaiter, unclip the switches from the harness connectors and undo one screw at the very rear of the console (hidden behind a flap you need to pry open))

#4: Re: Cigar lighter - need new one Author: Ross74H, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Sun Oct 04, 2015 4:36 pm ---- Haynes manual says you need to remove the centre console section and remove the plug from underneath and then take it out in two parts - the lighter section and then the illuminated yellow plastic ring section.
But the Haynes manual always seems to take a harder route than neccessary.

Probably the 'proper' way to do it, if you're not willing to break it. But if it's already beyond repair...
#6: Re: Cigar lighter - need new one Author: Hogweed, Posted: Mon Oct 05, 2015 3:33 am ---- Thanks guys, both solutions very much appreciated - I'm afraid, in this case, it's going to be butchery - as you say, the old one is beyond use.
#7: Re: Cigar lighter - need new one Author: Hogweed, Posted: Tue Oct 06, 2015 9:16 am ---- Ummm... sorry if this should be really obvious, but I break things
How do you detach the bottom black section (which includes the connector) from the top orange/silver section?
I need to do this to get it through the hole... thanks
#8: Re: Cigar lighter - need new one Author: Hogweed, Posted: Thu Oct 08, 2015 1:12 pm ---- Well, tried everything, and in the end had to destroy the old one to remove it. Not much of a loss really! New one in and working, thanks again
