#1: Hazards not working when Ignition is off Author: PS1000, Posted: Tue Feb 23, 2016 3:17 pm ---- Hi - any help appreciated. 2004 (54 plate) 1.4S - which I assume is multiplexed - the hazard's dont work when the ignition is off - so it has failed its MOT. They work fine when the ignition is on. I'm guessing there should be a permanent live to the switch ? - but there isnt.
Its a single switch that is split in the middle and does both central locking and hazards. The plug has 5 wires. Two wires have 12v when ignition is switched on. None of the wires have any voltage when the ignition is switched off
If I run a permanent live which wire do I connect it to and will this work ? I cant find a wiring diagram or pinouts for this switch anywhere and am terrified of damaging the dreaded BSI if I make an incorrect connection
(Just in case its relevant the multi function display loses its settings every time ignition is off - so looks like it does not have a permanent live either. I'm not too bothered about this - I just added this info in case someone knows that it is related)

Check for blown fuses.
If none found send the BSI unit away for repair.

It feels a bit drastic jumping straight from "Hazards not working with ignition off" to "send the BSI away for repair" without any other diagnostic stages in the middle. (I have tried the reboot procedure)
However your forum name suggests you may have lots of experience in this area - Is there anything else I could try - or in your experience is it something you have seen a lot of and know for certain it is a BSI issue ?
I do agree that 5 wires are probably not adequate to support basic electrical switching between all the functions of the switch so I assume the BSI is playing a key role.
I've had to spend quite a lot of money on other (mechanical) repairs to the car recently and want to avoid the expense of a BSI repair if at all possible
