Car vibrating!!

So after a big MOT fail and an expensive new back axle, my car is now playing up big time.
Not sure if it’s related to the axle, but whenever I’m stationary with the engine on and the car in gear, my car is juddering and making a weird noise (sort of like the noise a bus makes when it’s in traffic!) It’s particularly bad when it’s in first – noise sounds like it’s coming from the front possibly near the fan. Really struggling to get into first now, even though the gear feels loose, and getting it into reverse usually takes more than one attempt now. Changing between 2nd – 5th still ok.
There’s no shaking when I’m driving or out of gear, literally just when I’m in gear sat in traffic.
Any ideas anyone? Am I facing another disgusting bill to fix it?!
P.S no engine light on

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

could you give us some more details about the car please? Year, engine etc.

The gear selection issue sounds like what happened to my old car. Is there a lot of play in the gearstick? Stick it in any gear with the engine off and wobble it left to right, front to back. Is there a lot of movement in it?

If so then it's likely a gear linkage which anyone remotely handy can fix themselves.

Hope it's a cheap fix for you.

It’s a 52 plate 1.4 engine think it’s an LX model, sorry should have said! I did think it might be the gear linkage at first as there is loads of play, but would that cause the vibration? I’ve been reading engine vibration is likely to do with engine/ misfiring which scares me as it sounds expensive! 

What sort of mileage has it covered?
Does it vibrate in neutral?
Does it vibrate in gear with clutch engaged?
Does it vibrate in gear without clutch engaged?
What happens if you rev in neutral?

Don't suppose you happen to know anyone with PP2000? That'd sort you right out.
Sorry to bombard you with questions but the more info you put up here the more likely folk will be able to and want to help you Smile

From reading around it's looking like a misfire or a dodgy engine mount. I'd suggest getting some form of diagnostics on there if you know anyone with PP2000 that would be ideal.

Mileage about 80,000ish
Doesn't vibrate in neutral
Yep does vibrate in gear with clutch engaged
Doesn't vibrate in gear when clutch not engaged - doesn't vibrate when driving
Not tried revving in neutral will try later!!

Don't know anyone with pp2000 unfortunately, think thats covered it Smile :)

Might be the clutch .. possibly the thrust bearing ...

hello everyone, I'm New here, I've owned my 206 S16 gti for a few months now, I bought it for £200 with a knackered clutch, so I bought a replacement kit and changed the clutch, pressure plate and release bearing. Yay I thought, then I drove it, uh oh, feels like the car is going to fall apart, so after reading a few people's posts I thought I'd change what they had on theirs and see what happens, so I've changed the anti roll bar bushes, top engine mount is new, bottom engine mount is new, gearbox mount is new, New top strut bearings as well, but I still have the same symptoms, when I go to pull away I get a judder feeling and vibration through the steering and a horrible grumbling noise too, I now have nearly £500 in this car after changing all the parts but only seem to have fixed the clutch, and renewed lots of parts that seem like they didn't need to be changed. Damn. So now I'm stuck? All I can think of is driveshafts, but the car does the noise and juddering in a straight line as well as if I turn the wheels, but seems worse when pulling away, if I Jack the car up and have the engine on and stick it in gear there is nothing, no noise, no judder and no vibration, so it only seems to do it once the car is on the ground and with its weight on the wheels, I'm stuck please help. It's a 2001 Y reg peugeot 206 s16 gti 136.when I got the car home I put it on my code reader and it said egr valve fault and knock sensor fault, so I took the egr valve off cleaned it up put it back and changed the knock sensor for a new one cleared the codes and now have no fault codes showing. I don't think it's on the engine, it sounds More suspension/ chassis to me but I'm not sure exactly which, the car has done 108000 miles but engine runs fine and changes gears fine too with no vibration in neutral or when revving in neutral. Hope I have given enough info for someone to help me diagnose the fault. Thanks.
