Hey folks, picked up a W reg 206 GTI 2.0L yesterday, 100k on the clock.

Drives spot on, solid steering!!

Has a rough idle where the car will shudder slightly and the exhaust is puffing in time with the shuddering. Any ideas?

Offside front wheel splash shield is missing exposing part of the engine, is there a DIY fix for this?

What's the best engine oil to use?

Cheers!!

Idle could be the coil pack or just simply the plugs need replacing. Get codes read.

Splash guard is simply screwed or clipped on .. fit one.

5w40 semi synth I think, might be fully synth .. that what we use in our CC with same engine.

Splash guard... Try a breakers yard or something, easy to grab and fit as Gazza mentioned.

While at scrap yard, if you have the opportunity getting your hands on a 206: get clips. The round plastic ones, the clips on general connectors and try to get as many M10 (the usual) bolts as possible Wink

Cheers guys will get onto all that.

Worth mentioning that with the rough idle the revs stay constant. In other words the needle stays still whilst the car gently shudders. Shuddering stops as soon as I pull away.
