Headlights
-> 206 Problems

Hi everyone,

My name is Jamie and Im new here so I do apologise if there is already a topic about this already.

Recently one of my headlights went out, so as one would think, I need a new bulb. So last night, got home, my other headlight went out, again thought to myself, I need two bulbs now. So today, went out, bought two new bulbs for Halfords, got them home and installed them, shut the bonnet then jumped in the car to check if the lights worked. Needless to say, no joy. I've tried putting each bulb into each headlight socket and yet no joy still. I am left here wondering, is this a fuse problem? I'm driving an 04 plate 206 (obv its a 206 haha) but I don't have a handbook for it as it was misplaced a year or so ago so I don't know what the fuse is what in the fuse box.

If anyone can shed some light on this issue it would be a great help, or even post a picture of the Fuse Box Map from their handbook that would also be very very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Not 100% sure where the fuses for the head unit are located, as there are two locations.

1) Engine bay, nearby the battery. My car has it diagonally right above the battery...
2) Underneath your steering wheel. Take a coin or screwdriver, twist the screw 90% degrees and you can take the panel off.

Have a double check of the fuses and see if the problem is there. Unfortunately I cannot find the right map for you, and there seem to be many different ones around!

Hopefully anyone else has something more useful to add though...

Thanks for the info, I've checked the fuses and it was them, however every time
I install new fuses then turn my lights on to check them, they get shorted out instantly, no idea what is going on

At least you know which fuse to go after by now...

... But more worryingly: what causes the fuses to blow indeed.

Check all the connectors to the headlights. See if they are not broken, creating a short circuit or anything. That would be my first point of call... Unless someone else has another idea?

So we've got my headlights going now, now its just the main beam which seems to be playing up. Going to ask an electrician in the morning unless someone comes up with a solution.

We've checked the connectors and they all seem to be perfectly fine. If push comes to shove one of my friends has a garage so I'll give him a call if needbe, hopefully it'll be something simple but knowing my luck it'll be something huge haha.

pAvax, thank you kindly for your quick responses

No worries and I would definitely have it all double checked. You don't blow bulbs and fuses for no reason... One time can happen, but multiple bulbs and fuses in short succession doesn't sound good to me.

Perhaps someone like MrBSI has an idea?

Should be the crystal twin H7 headlamp set up.

The short wiring loom inside the actual headlamp is a known weak spot.

The earth points under each of the headlamps are another known issue - Remove the bolt, clean the bolt threads & wiring rings for the earths & then refit the bolt each side.
