I've got a brown/white wire and a white/red wire coming from the plug...should one of these be the earth wire and if so, which one? Also, where is it earthed to? Thanks

Thanks. We were trying to assess if the crankshaft sensor was working properly or not, but wanted to check the wiring before replacing it!
#4: Re: Crankshaft sensor Author: gazza82, Location: South BucksPosted: Fri Jun 16, 2017 9:59 am ---- They tend to work or fail .. if it fails it will cause the engine to stall, usually when the engine temperature rises and the EML will come on. PP2000 or a compatible OBD reader will tell you if you have had any faults.
Ours is a 2002 1.4 HDi and that simply cut-out on us when this was failing. Let the car to cool and it started again. But the stalling got more frequent. PITA to replace: crank pulley and most of the cam belt covers have to come off to get access to it (Haynes manual isn't very clear or specific!)

The symptoms are it keeps cutting out/stalling, but strangely when it does, the fan comes on until the ignition is switched off?!
